The Fake Heiress And Her Obsessive Fiancé Chapter 05

When I returned to the apartment, the living room looked like it had been ransacked.

Wesley sat on the sofa, arms folded, his eyes flashing with provocation. “Weren’t you the one so hell-bent on breaking us up?

“Then hurry up. Pack your bags and get out of my house.”

“All those new designer rags filling your room? They make my head ache just looking at them.

“Tell me, do you really think Terrence can afford to keep you in that lifestyle on his pathetic monthly salary?”

“If he can’t buy them, that’s fine,” I replied calmly. “I’d still like him just the same. I’d only love him more.”

With that, I walked straight into the bedroom and dragged out my suitcase.

Then I began picking up the clothes scattered across the floor, folding them one by one and placing them carefully into the case.

“Wait… Cristina, are you serious?”

Wesley suddenly rushed over and slammed a hand down on my suitcase, his fingertips turning pale from the force.

His breathing grew uneven, and a faint red sheen crept into his eyes. “You’re really going to break off the engagement for that guy?

“Does bossing him around feel as satisfying as bossing me around?

“What’s so great about him? What did I do wrong?”

Wesley stared at me intensely. Then, suddenly, he dropped to his knees. His face had turned deathly pale, his body trembling. “Cristina… I was wrong. I won’t disobey you anymore.

“You’re not allowed to leave.”

One hand clutched the hem of my clothes while the other pressed against his chest. His expression twisted in pain.

“Cristina… it hurts. Please.”

His lips trembled it didn’t look fake.

Only then did I remember Wesley had a heart condition.

That was the reason the Hayden family had always spoiled him so much.

Soon after, Wesley fainted. I immediately called for an ambulance.

While he was being treated in the emergency room, I waited outside. Inside my head, two voices kept arguing back and forth.

Had my decision to leave really upset Wesley this much?

Did that mean… he cared about me after all?

Wesley had to stay in the hospital for a few days, so I went back home to bring him some clean clothes.

“Wes, you’re something else,” one of his friends was saying. “Just to keep Cristina from leaving, you actually landed yourself in the hospital.”

“I’m not reluctant to let her go,” Wesley replied. “I just want to wait until Cristina falls completely in love with me… then I’ll dump her.

“I’ve got to admit, though — this little pity play worked pretty well.”

My hand froze on the doorknob as I heard those words from inside the room.

For once, I was grateful I had arrived at exactly the right moment. Otherwise, I might have been fooled by Wesley again.

Really, I should have known better. With Wesley’s personality, if the engagement were ever going to end, it would only be because he decided it.

If I forced the issue now, there was no telling what desperate stunt he’d pull next.

So for the time being, the only thing I could do was play along. Once my parents’ real daughter returned, the Hayden family would naturally ask for the engagement to be canceled.
