The Fake Heiress And Her Obsessive Fiancé Chapter 06
During the days Wesley stayed in the hospital, I never mentioned the engagement again.
Instead, I returned to the way I used to interact with him.
Wesley was overjoyed.
Not long after that, the Lambert family’s true heiress — Jaylynn Lambert was finally found.
The Lambert family threw a grand party to celebrate her return. In no time at all, the news spread throughout the entire city.
After Wesley was discharged from the hospital, we attended the party together.
When Wesley learned about my true identity, he actually seemed quite pleased. Grabbing my hand, he said with a threatening grin, “See, Cristina? Try mentioning a breakup now. Without the Lamberts, the only pillar you’ve got left is me.”
When Jaylynn saw Wesley, her eyes lit up instantly. “So it’s you. Do you remember me?”
Wesley shot me a provocative glance. “Of course I remember.”
From their conversation, I learned that years ago Wesley had once saved Jaylynn when she was almost harassed by a group of thugs.
Watching the two of them chatting happily, a dull ache slowly spread through my chest.
When I returned home later, I noticed the tablet lighting up again with messages from Wesley’s group chat.
“Wes, you and the Lambert family’s real heiress looked perfect together today.”
Wesley replied, “To be honest, someone gentle like Jaylynn is actually my type. Cristina only knows how to control me. She’s annoying.”
Another friend joked, “Wes, why not dump Cristina now and get engaged to Jaylynn instead?”
Wesley answered, “Not yet. I’ll wait until Cristina falls completely in love with me… then I’ll dump her.”
I turned off the tablet. My chest felt tight and heavy.
The day after the banquet, my adoptive parents asked me to return to the Lambert family’s villa.
They felt they owed Jaylynn far too much.
Jaylynn liked Wesley. She wanted to marry him. So they asked me to give the engagement to her.
I agreed.
I had never intended to compete with Jaylynn for anything.
Everything here had originally been hers, and it should be returned to her.
But once the news of Wesley and Jaylynn’s engagement spread, I would probably become the laughingstock of our entire social circle.
I likely wouldn’t be able to stay in New York any longer.
After leaving the Lambert’s villa, I took a taxi to the racetrack Wesley often visited.
Even though I already knew what his answer would be, I still wanted to ask him face-to-face before leaving.
Only then could I truly give up.
When I arrived at the racetrack, Wesley was leaning against his car, chatting with several friends.
Someone with sharp eyes spotted me first and nudged Wesley.
“Wes, Wes — Cristina’s here.”
Wesley looked up, frowning slightly. “Cristina, what are you doing here?
“I’ve only been out for a little while, and you’re already here to control me?”
I stared straight at him and asked quietly, “Wesley, does it matter who the girl is? Is any bride fine as long as the alliance holds?”
“Why not?” Wesley looked at me with interest. “Cristina, it’s not like I absolutely have to marry you.
“But as long as you stop getting involved with other men, I won’t break off the engagement.”
My nails dug into my palms as I forced my voice to remain steady.
“Alright. I understand.”
Wesley snorted. “At least you know your place, Cristina.”
After leaving the racetrack, I had a simple meal with Flossie.
That very afternoon, I bought a ticket and left New York.
