The Esports Superstar Is Mine Chapter 09

I still had to make a trip to Quintin’s place. After all, I’d already agreed.

Killian’s face darkened. He gritted his teeth and gently flicked my forehead. “Fine. I’m going with you.”

“Why?” I shot back. “I’ll only be gone for a while!”

“Didn’t he invite me, too?”

He actually took it seriously. Did he not realize how much Quintin loathed him?

When Quintin opened the door and saw me, he was over the moon, but the sight of Killian wiped the smile off his face.

“Make yourself at home.”

The room was packed with people. Quintin had invited them over to hang out.

Someone kept sneaking glances at Killian, then checked his phone and exclaimed, “Holy shit! You’re the former captain of Yellowjacket Gaming. Damn! I can’t believe I’m seeing you here. I’ve watched you play in tournaments. You’re literally the GOAT! Too bad that… never mind. Let’s not get into that. Can we take a photo together? My buddies are huge fans of yours.”

Quintin was already displeased by Killian’s arrival, and the flattery was the last straw. He glared at Killian and said provocatively, “Sounds like you’re quite the player. Guess you can’t refuse to play a few matches, right? Show me what you got… former captain?”

Killian shrugged nonchalantly. “I’m game.”

To be honest, I was a little worried. He hadn’t played the game since he left the team, and getting back into it would feel different.

Quintin got the first kill right at the start, which gave his confidence a huge boost. Now, the jitters were gone, and he felt invincible.

But he underestimated how fast a pro could adjust. Before long, Killian got into his groove and dominated the game.

And that wasn’t enough. Every time Quintin thought he’d escaped, Killian would come back and finish him off. Dying under the turret was even more humiliating.

In the end, the game finished at 1:8.

Killian spun his phone over the back of his hand like it was a pen and said casually, “Shall we keep playing?”

Quintin flew into a rage, his face twisting. “Don’t get carried away. You’re nothing but a has-been with bipolar disorder and a mother who is off her rocker. Come on, Sylvia! You honestly think he’s a catch. Your kids are gonna turn out just like that.”

How did he know all that? He was acting like he didn’t know Killian, but he had clearly done his homework.

I snatched up the glass from the table and splashed the water at him, my gaze turning icy.

“A fool like you, who parrots whatever you hear, thinks you get to judge him? Why don’t you take a look at yourself? If your skill matched your bravado, you wouldn’t have gone 1-8. Loser!”

I grabbed Killian’s hand and led him outside, slamming the door behind us.

“He’s in no position to say that about you. What bipolar? It’s all made-up bullshit. And he believes it? How stupid can he be?

“You’re way too good for people to trash you like that!”

I couldn’t imagine how he’d survived the backlash, with all the lies and false accusations flying around. Public opinion really could destroy a person.

Killian didn’t think it was a big deal. He’d seen plenty of people like that. Back then, everyone had sided against him and wished he were dead.

But the girl before him trusted him completely, and having her defend him felt so damn good.

Killian paused, pulled me in front of him, bent down, and wiped the tears from the corner of my eye.

“Why do you cry so much? The first time I saw you, you were crying.”

I was caught up in my sadness when I suddenly reacted and shot him a glare.

“When did you recognize me? Didn’t you say you didn’t remember me?”

He pinched my cheek and pecked the tip of my nose.

“If I hadn’t recognized you that day at the hotel, I would’ve called the police to arrest a little perv like you!”

Unbelievable! He was still calling me that!

Frustrated, I pounced on him and bit his shoulder.

The next second, Philip’s voice came from behind us.

“What’s going on here? What are you two doing?”
