I Was His Substitute Bride Chapter 18
“Victoria, you actually lost your head over someone…”
But he didn’t know. He was the one I’d truly lost my head over. Nearly lost everything.
If he knew, he’d probably laugh himself sick.
I just looked over at Spencer, who was looking a little guilty. “Do you understand the consequences of fabricating evidence?”
Spencer said, wronged, “Honey, I had no other choice. I really had no other choice.”
He turned and thanked Sabrina. “Ms. Finch, thanks for the idea. You won’t be shortchanged on your bonus.”
Sabrina was beaming, smug. Smiled and replied, “Mr. Prescott, it was my duty.”
She bounced over to Cole, eager to take credit. Tugged at his sleeve. “Cole, you won. Your first case back in the country, and such a brilliant win. Everyone’s going to worship you.”
Cole violently shook her off. Glared at her.
Then he barked at Spencer. “Mr. Prescott, this deception crosses every professional line I have. It is unacceptable.”
Spencer’s face immediately soured. “Mr. Donovan, I’ve been wanting to ask. What exactly is your relationship with my wife? Why are you so concerned about her? I pay you. You do your job. Isn’t that enough?”
As if struck a vital spot, Cole froze.
Quickly, his lips moved. “She and I… we’re just former classmates.”
