A flicker of delight crossed Cole’s eyes. He turned to Spencer with a solemn face. “Mr. Prescott, I have professional ethics. If you have truly committed adultery, I cannot, in good conscience, help you fight this case.”
Spencer looked on the verge of tears. “Mr. Donovan, I really didn’t. I truly didn’t. Blair, say it again.”
He and Blair launched into an argument.
Cole looked at me, his face etched with heartache. “Victoria, I never imagined you’d end up with such a faithless scumbag. Don’t worry. I’ll definitely help you escape this misery.”
“Even if you want to marry again, you can’t marry a man like this.”
The corner of my mouth twisted. “Mr. Donovan, doesn’t it sound a little ironic, coming from you?”
Sabrina snapped. “Victoria, don’t be so ungrateful. Cole is being nice to you. Who are you being sarcastic with?”
A sharp crack sounded by my ear.
Spencer’s hand was still raised. And Blair was slowly holding her reddened right cheek. She stared at Spencer in total disbelief.
