He hastily crouched down to pick it up. His eyes, however, were fixed on me in disbelief.
The moment court broke for recess, Cole grabbed my arm. “Victoria, I feel for you. I don’t want you to stay in this unhappy marriage either.”
His tone was wooden.
Sabrina looked at me with undisguised disdain. “Victoria, sometimes I really pity you. Can’t beat the new flame. Can’t beat the childhood sweetheart. You’re a total failure as a woman.”
I looked at her coldly. “Does destroying someone else’s relationship make you a success?”
Sabrina choked. Suddenly, her eyes flicked to the doorway. She laughed, absolutely delighted. “Oh, I misspoke. You’re just a stand-in. What are you acting so tough for?”
At the door, a woman in a white Chanel suit, looking gentle and poised, walked in gracefully. She reached up and playfully ruffled Spencer’s hair. “Little Prince, what’s so urgent you had to call me here?”
Long ago, the first time Spencer took me to meet his friends, they’d all frozen. Exchanged glances.
I hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
It wasn’t until Blair appeared at the wedding that I understood.
Our features weren’t that similar. But at a single glance, our auras were strikingly close.
Spencer swatted Blair’s hand away, a little panicked. “You’re here. This is all your fault. Victoria’s trying to divorce me because of it. Hurry up and explain. That proposal on the cruise ship was a dare. Truth or dare. Just a joke.”
Blair turned her gaze on me. Her tone was lecturing. “Victoria, carrying on like this—no wonder Mr. and Mrs. Prescott have never been satisfied with you. A woman needs to be generous. Turn a blind eye now and then. That’s how a family finds happiness.”
A bitter smile touched my lips.
I knew it.
Spencer’s eyes widened in outrage. “Blair, what the hell are you saying? I’m telling you, if my wife divorces me because of you, I won’t let you get away with it.”
