After struggling free, I extended my hand to Cole, who was still struggling to process everything. “Hello. I am the plaintiff. In this divorce case, I am representing myself.”
Cole’s gaze fell on my face.
I didn’t flinch. Looked back at him calmly.
He didn’t take my hand.
I curled my fingers. Pulled my hand back.
Spencer’s gaze was darting between me and Cole. Suspicion crept into his voice. “Honey, do you and Mr. Donovan know each other?”
It was almost funny. Married for over a year. He’d never once asked about my past.
Didn’t even know Cole and I had history.
Something that could be found out with a few casual inquiries in our circle. He’d just never cared to learn about me.
And that was the truth. In the end, I was nothing more than a stand-in for Blair.
Before Cole could open his mouth, I cut in. “Former classmates.”
Spencer had always been self-centered. If he found out about my past with Cole, he’d turn the whole world upside down.
Better to keep things simple.
Cole’s hand, however, suddenly clenched into a fist. Fingertips digging hard into his palm. Almost drawing blood.
Spencer let out a cheerful laugh. “Right, how could I forget? I remember Mr. Donovan also sent me an engagement invitation for him and Ms. Finch.”
“Mr. Donovan, as long as you can win this case for me and help me win Victoria back, I’ll give you a massive red envelope for your engagement party.”
I turned and walked away.
In court, I stated that my relationship with Spencer had irretrievably broken down, and that Spencer had engaged in extramarital affairs.
I presented photos of Spencer and Blair together, their chat logs, and messages from others urging me to leave him as soon as possible. All arranged chronologically and submitted as evidence.
