I Signed With The Wrong Husband Chapter 10
Watching Henrietta and Cedric banter with such natural intimacy, Sylvester could no longer restrain himself. He pushed through the crowd, strode directly toward them, and reached for Henrietta’s arm. “Hattie, you’re alive! Why didn’t you come back to me? Do you have any idea what I’ve been through?”
Henrietta stepped smoothly behind Cedric without a word.
Cedric let out a contemptuous laugh and lifted his chin to the guards beside him, not even granting Sylvester a glance.
Two guards immediately seized Sylvester, pinned his arms behind his back, and forced him to the floor in one swift motion.
“Mr. Payne,” Cedric said, his voice icy, “making advances toward my fiancée at our engagement party? Do military regulations mean nothing to you? Or do you think I’m someone you can mess with?”
The guests all looked over, murmuring among themselves, “Ms. Meskill and Mr. Hammond make such a perfect match. Who does that man think he is? He’s not even fit to stand near them.”
“Exactly. Mr. Hammond is a legend. That guy isn’t worthy of even looking at his fiancée.”
“Mr. Hammond, just throw him out.”
Ignoring Sylvester’s struggles on the floor, Cedric turned to Henrietta, his voice softening instantly. “Let’s not allow an irrelevant distraction to ruin our evening. The engagement ceremony now continues.”
He clapped his hands lightly. Then a procession of attendants entered, each bearing a tray. “Ms. Meskill, these are property deeds for villas in Beverly Hills. You may take your pick.”
“Ms. Meskill, this document grants you private airport access. Use it whenever you want. “Ms. Meskill, these are company shares.”
One after another, they presented privileges–real estate, stocks–all on a scale few could fathom.
Just then, the banquet hall lights dimmed.
A shower of petals drifted from above.
Cedric went down on one knee and took Henrietta’s hand.
“Marry me.”
Outside the floor–to–ceiling windows, fireworks burst into bloom. Their colorful light swept across the room, illuminating Henrietta’s face.
Seeing the earnest devotion in Cedric’s eyes, she smiled and extended her right hand, “I do. But fair warning–I’m not good–tempered. You’d better be prepared.”
Cedric slid a diamond ring onto her finger, stood, and brought the back of her hand gently to his lips. “My pleasure.”
