I Signed With The Wrong Husband Chapter 11
Pinned to the floor, Sylvester watched the proposal unfold–each moment a fresh twist of the knife in his heart. The pain was suffocating.
With a sudden surge of strength, he broke free from the guards, rushed forward, and wrapped his arms desperately around Henrietta’s waist. “Hattie, please! Don’t marry him!” he pleaded, his voice sobbing. “I know I was wrong. I should never have neglected you. Please, come back to me. Let’s start over. I’ll give you a wedding even grander than this!”
Henrietta pushed him away coldly, her eyes devoid of warmth, edged with unmistakable disgust. “Mr. Payne, you must be mistaken. My fiancé is Cedric. As for Henrietta…” She paused, her tone sharpening with sarcasm. “The Henrietta whose heart you broke died in that valley. Now, I am Cedric’s fiancée. I have nothing to do with you.
“Also,” she continued after a pause, glancing at Sylvester, “I don’t need your so–called wedding. When I asked you to marry me, you told me to wait. And then you got involved with Miranda. The very thought of a wedding with you now disgusts me.”
Sylvester’s face went deathly pale. His lips trembled, but no words came out.
As he reached for her hand, Cedric stepped between them.
“Mr. Payne,” Cedric warned, his voice low and firm, “stop pestering my fiancée. I’ll let today’s scene pass, but if you push your luck, there will be consequences.”
After saying this, he turned, his arm encircling Henrietta’s waist, and led her toward the main seat without another glance at Sylvester.
The guests averted their eyes. No one paid any attention to Sylvester, slumped on the floor.
He was like a clown, performing a drama on a stage that wasn’t his, for an audience that didn’t exist.
Miranda approached and reached to help him up, but he roughly shoved her hand away.
As she stumbled back, the chat interface on her phone caught his eye.
“Ms. Johnston, when will I receive the 500,000 dollars? I did what you asked–I pushed Henrietta down the mountain.”
