He Chose His Secret Family So I Destroyed His World Chapter 14
Smack.
Damon raised his hand and struck himself hard across the face. His eyes were red as he lifted them to Sabine. “I’m sorry.” His voice was raw, a penance for the child that would never be. “Give me one more chance, Sabine. I swear I’ll handle Seraphina. I’ll set everything right again.”
Sabine’s eyes slid past him, out to the Charles River beyond the window.
She thought back to the first time they’d met. She thought of how proud he had been of every award-winning drawing she turned out, all those late nights he’d sat up beside her reworking plans. They had mapped out their retirement, too — a small vineyard in Napa, the northern lights in Iceland.
She had genuinely believed she could spend her whole life with this man.
But now, all that was left was reality.
She brought her gaze back to him, her face composed. “You can repent for the child,” she said. “But I can’t forgive you for standing by while I was surrounded and torn apart — while they tried to brand me a lunatic.”
She let a beat pass, then said it with finality. “The engagement is gone. The baby is gone. And the love is gone too. We’re finished, Damon.”
His face went bloodless. He still reached for her hand.
Sabine didn’t answer. She simply pressed the call button beside her bed, then dialed hospital security.
“This is Sabine Fenwick in room 302. Someone is violating his bail conditions and harassing me.”
A few minutes later, two security guards appeared in the doorway and, without a word, marched a stunned Damon out.
