When We Met Again Our Son Was Five Chapter 03
The next day, I returned to the Keller’s manor as promised.
When Josephine walked over in her wedding dress with its long train, I was crouching in a corner, fixing Lucas’ little suit.
“Nessa, you came. Perfect timing. There’s something I’d like you to help with.”
I raised an eyebrow, waiting to see what kind of stunt she was about to pull.
She clapped her hands, and two bodyguards in black stepped out from behind her. One stood on my left and the other on my right, and they grabbed my arms.
“The kitchen is short on help today. The dishwasher ran off at the last minute. Since you’re just standing around anyway, why don’t you go help?”
I frowned.
“Josephine, you invited me to your wedding just to make me wash dishes?”
She looked me up and down, her gaze full of condescension.
“Kitchen work isn’t that hard. You just wash some plates and mop the floor. Surely you can handle that much. You’re not a pampered princess anymore, the one who never had to lift a finger.”
The two bodyguards dragged me toward the kitchen.
Lucas rushed over and hugged my leg.
“Don’t touch my mom!”
Josephine gave the bodyguards a look. Another bodyguard stepped forward, grabbed Lucas by the back of his collar, and lifted him away from me.
“Josephine!” I struggled and shouted, “Let go of my son!”
“Relax. It’s not like I’m going to do anything to him.” She adjusted her veil, and her tone was light as air. “Once you finish the work in the kitchen, I promise I’ll return your son to you in one piece.”
She paused, leaned close to my ear, and lowered her voice.
“Of course, that’s assuming you do the job properly. If you break even one plate, you and your son will be going home naked today.”
The bodyguards dragged me into the kitchen and dumped me in front of a pile of greasy plates.
“You leave when they’re done.”
The door was locked from the outside.
I took a deep breath, rolled up my sleeves, and started washing.
I washed for almost an hour, and my hands turned pale from being soaked in water.
Just then, a sudden commotion came from the distance, followed by Josephine’s scream.
“How is that possible? I was clearly wearing it on my hand. That diamond ring is worth 8.5 million dollars!
“How could it be missing?”
For some reason, my heart sank, and a bad feeling came over me.
I looked out through the crack in the door.
In the next second, I heard Josephine’s speculation.
“Just a second ago, there seemed to be a kid who got pretty close to me. He even bumped into me, and then my ring disappeared.”
Before Josephine even finished speaking, the bodyguards brought Lucas out.
The little guy was still holding half a macaron in his hand. His cheeks were puffed out, and all of a sudden, attention left him looking a little stunned.
“I didn’t do it!
“What are you doing? Let me go!”
Lucas started struggling hard.
Josephine quickly stepped forward and put on a fake apologetic act.
“Sweetie, I’m sorry.
“This ring is really too valuable for me to lose. I just want to make sure. I only need to check whether it’s on you. If it isn’t, I’ll have them let you go right away!”
Under the watchful eyes of everyone present, the ring was taken out of Lucas’ pocket.
The entire ballroom erupted in an uproar, and looks of contempt and disgust came at him from every direction.
