Too Late For Redemption Chapter 03

Too Late For Redemption Chapter 03

The moment the door opened, a damp, putrid stench hit her in the face.

The blood in her veins froze instantly.

As the wife of the prestigious Carter family, it wasn’t as if she had never been kidnapped before.

Those people whipped her, forcing her to call Leo for money. When she refused, they beat her even harder.

After she was rescued, she suffered from insomnia for two whole months, having to leave the lights on every night just to barely sleep for an hour or two.

Luna slumped onto the floor, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.

At that time, Leo stayed by her side day and night, promising that he would never let her be locked in a dark place again in this lifetime.

Yet for Mia’s sake, he had repeatedly thrown her into a place like this.

Those memories flooded back overwhelmingly—

The sound of a whip lashing against her body.

The vile laughter of the men.

The sensation of rats crawling over her feet.

Her sanity snapped. She desperately pounded on the iron door, tears falling like rain.

“Let me out! Let me out! Leo, you can’t do this to me! You said you would never let me be locked up again!”

She screamed until her voice went hoarse, but there was no response from outside.

Luna slid down to the floor, shaking violently.

An unknown amount of time passed before her mother’s face surfaced in her mind’s eye, and she leaned against the wall to stand up.

The fabric for the clothes was still piled on the table.

She had to get out.

The urn was still at the funeral home, and her grandmother was still waiting for her to bring her mother home. She couldn’t die here!

Luna took a deep breath, raised her hand, and slapped herself across the face.

The crisp sound echoed in the empty basement.

Once, twice…

Blood seeped from the corner of her mouth, and her cheeks stung with a burning pain.

The sharp pain brought her a sliver of clarity in the darkness.

But at least, her hands stopped shaking.

Luna picked up the needle and thread. When she sewed the first stitch, the needle pricked her finger, but she didn’t stop.

Once the clothes were finished, once she was let out of this basement, she would leave Leo for good.

And never come back.

After staying up for three days and three nights, she finally finished making the clothes.

When she woke up, she saw Leo frowning deeply at the clothes she had painstakingly rushed to finish.

“Why is it all black and white?”

He remembered her favorite colors were vibrant reds, blues, and greens, just like her fiery and passionate self, never discouraged even when facing criticism.

Luna opened her eyes and got up, swaying a few steps to the mannequin to continue the finishing touches.

“It’s a very fitting color palette for a designer’s final curtain call. If Mr. Carter is just here to check on the progress, you can leave now.”

She adjusted her glasses and pinned the fabric in place, her eyes hollow and empty, her voice still hoarse.

Leo frowned. That distant “Mr. Carter” made his heart ache, as if a large hand had mercilessly squeezed it.

Dark circles shadowed the girl’s eyes. She was bundled up tightly, looking terribly sensitive to the cold, and as she raised her arm, bandages could be faintly seen wrapped around it.

Luna, whom he had once doted on like a princess, had never looked so broken.

A sharp, unaccountable stab of pain pierced his chest.

Yet she would rather be pushed to the brink than obediently accept Mia, refusing to utter a single word of compromise.

His phone rang, and as if seeking revenge, he tapped the speakerphone button.

“Leo, save me! Someone is blocking my door!” Mia sobbed, “They said they’re Luna’s fans! I don’t know how they found out about us, but they said they’re here to get revenge for her!”

Leo took a few strides forward and grabbed her wrist. “Luna, what kind of trick are you playing now? Come with me to Mia’s house!”

In the struggle, Luna was thrown heavily to the ground, a large pool of dark red blood seeping out from beneath her.

The man froze instantly.

“What is…”

The blood beneath the girl flowed faster and faster, quickly staining the large swath of white fabric beneath her.

“Luna… Luna, what’s wrong! Assistant! Get the private doctor and call 911!”

Luna’s eyes lost their focus, her chest rising and falling weakly.

He dropped to his knees and cradled the girl’s head, but on the other end of the line, Mia’s screams suddenly turned shrill and desperate, sounding as if someone was breaking down her door.

“Luna, the doctor will be here soon. I have to go to Mia first, then I’ll wait for you at the hospital!”

Luna felt a hand tap her cheek, then watched leather‑clad feet rush past her fading vision. Suffocating from blood loss, she slipped into unconsciousness
