I Was His Substitute Bride Chapter 31
I thought I was hallucinating.
Turned my head. Cole was staring at me.
Like if I just nodded, he’d run away with me.
I took a deep breath. “Cole, don’t joke around.”
Cole’s mouth twisted into a bitter smile. “You think I’m joking? Victoria, lately I keep thinking. If Sabrina had never appeared, would we be married by now? With kids?”
I frowned. “This isn’t something you should be saying.”
Cole’s eyes reddened. He lost a bit of control. Grabbed my hand. “You clearly wanted to marry me. Why aren’t you objecting? Spencer, that pampered rich boy who can’t even lift a finger, isn’t right for you. He’ll just boss you around. Torture you. I’m different. We’re so alike. We’re perfect together.”
“Who do you want to object?”
Spencer’s voice was nearly a snarl.
I turned. Saw him striding in from the entrance.
For some reason, I felt a stab of guilt. Instinctively said, “Spencer.”
He pushed me aside. Cocked his arm back and slammed a fist into Cole’s cheekbone.
Cole’s face instantly swelled, angry red.
Spencer jabbed a finger at him, cursing. “Cole Donovan, have you no shame? I knew something was off with you from the start. Tell me. What exactly is your relationship with my wife? What are you plotting, driving a wedge between us?”
Hearing the commotion, the guests inside, who’d been waiting impatiently for the groom-to-be to return for the toast, couldn’t sit still anymore.
Sabrina was the first to rush out. Seeing Spencer’s aggressive, domineering posture, her already raised hand wilted and dropped back down.
