I Was His Substitute Bride Chapter 26
I was pulling my hand back when I heard a tremendous crash.
Then Spencer’s furious voice. “What the hell are you talking about, Ted? I’ve always seen you as a brother. What are you making up? I really only see Blair as an older sister. There is nothing between us.”
Ted’s tone was dismissive. “Yeah, yeah. Just calm down, okay? I’ll admit Victoria is decent. But didn’t you approach her in the first place because she looked like Blair? I never knew you were such a saint, Mr. Prescott. Why not just take every drunk girl passed out on the street home?”
Spencer’s voice was muffled. “Did you say that to Victoria?”
Ted snorted. “Spencer, you think Victoria is blind? You think she can’t see she looks like Blair?”
Spencer sounded utterly miserable. “The whole world thinks Victoria is a stand-in for Blair. But I really don’t see it. They are two different people. Completely different. I’ve never once thought they were alike. Ted, tell me. What can I do to change everyone’s mind?”
After a long pause, Ted’s curse came from inside. “You’re serious? If you’re serious, why haven’t you gone public with your relationship?”
Spencer answered, completely earnest. “If I go public, it’ll cause trouble for Victoria. The gossip media will investigate her. I know she hates being exposed.”
My heart in chaos at the door, I reached out and pushed it open.
