I said yes to Spencer’s proposal.
Until the wedding day. A woman in a long white dress stormed in. She arrived, fashionably late, to deliver her well-wishes for the marriage.
In that instant, I felt it.
I felt Spencer’s distraction. I felt his absentmindedness when he said “I do.” I felt his fingers tremble as he slid the ring on my finger. And his gaze, constantly drifting toward that person.
I fiercely told myself to stay calm. Spencer loved me very much.
So when he, who’d always been a playboy and never wanted to inherit the family business, suddenly said he was going back to work at the company, using overtime and business dinners as an excuse, while he was actually accompanying Blair to dinners and galas—I didn’t throw a fit.
When his friend got married, he didn’t tell me. He took Blair. Said it was because I was shy around strangers and Blair was heading the same way anyway—I didn’t fight.
I numbed myself with work like a madwoman. Forced myself to live a lie for almost two years.
Half a month ago, Spencer, who hadn’t spoken to me properly in ages, suddenly became affectionate again. Clung to me, saying he couldn’t bear to be apart. Said he had to go abroad on business.
The next day, I saw a video. Spencer, on a cruise ship, down on one knee, proposing to Blair.
On his bare ring finger, Blair was slipping on a men’s wedding band.
In that moment, I heard a faint, delicate sound near my ear.
Maybe the sound of a heart shattering.
Human tolerance is strange.

I didn’t even bother confronting him. Just sent him a message. I want a divorce.

Cole was physically holding Spencer back.
Spencer’s eyes were red. His voice shook with agitation. “Victoria, I didn’t. I never knew you were suffering so much. These are all photoshopped. Fake. You’re the only one I love.”
