I Signed With The Wrong Husband Chapter 07
Sylvester pointed at the screenshot, his voice hoarse. “She’s my fiancée… This has to be a mistake. She was upset and left without me. How could this … happen?”
“Sir, we need you to come with us to identify the body at the mortuary,” one officer said.
At the word “mortuary“, Sylvester’s legs gave way. He collapsed to the floor and remained there for a long time, unable to rise.
He was still in a daze as the officers helped him into the morgue.
When the white sheet was lifted, his eyes locked onto the wrist of the body.
There it was, the silver bracelet he’d bought with his first bonus, engraved inside with the words “Together Forever“.
“There are wild dogs in the valley,” a staff member explained, his voice sounding as if it came from far away. “The face is unrecognizable. Can you confirm if this bracelet belonged to Ms. Meskill?”
Sylvester stumbled forward, his hand trembling as he reached for the cold wrist. But in the next second, he paused.
Henrietta was his entire youth. How could she be gone like this?
His tears hit the cold floor tiles. He clutched the bracelet and broke down. “Hattie, I was wrong…. Get up, please… Let’s get married. You’ve waited so long…”
A staff member tried to pull him up, only to be shoved away violently. “I won’t sign the cremation papers!” he roared, totally losing control. “She’s not dead! She’s too proud to die like this in some valley. Stop lying to me!”
He grew more agitated by the second. Eventually, the officers had to escort him home by force.
For three days, he locked himself in the bedroom–not eating, not drinking, his suit lying crumpled on the floor.
Miranda moved in, claiming she needed to “take care of him“. Watching him waste away, she felt a bitter mix of jealousy and triumph.
With Henrietta gone, she could stay by his side openly.
She called a cleaning service to remove all traces of Henrietta, saying Henrietta’s things were “bad. luck“.
Just as the cleaner began, Sylvester pushed the door open and saw what was happening.
