After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 21

After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 21

Evelyn was helped out by the servants, and in an instant, only Adrian, Mara, and the man from earlier remained in the basement.

Mara stared in terror at the man she had once loved so deeply, as if she were looking at a demon.

“Adrian, are you insane?! You’re a lunatic! Aren’t you afraid of retribution?”

Her voice was hoarse, as if she hadn’t had water in a long time, and there was a hint of weakness in her tone.

Hearing this, Adrian glanced at her, then got up and walked over. He gripped her chin, looking into her terrified eyes, and suddenly laughed. “Retribution? What do I have to be afraid of? When you all did those things, did you ever think about retribution? How can you have the nerve to say that to me now?”

At his words, a trace of confusion flashed in Mara’s eyes.

Those things? What things?

Realizing there might be a misunderstanding, Mara clung to this sliver of hope, forcing out a few tears and putting on a pitiful expression.

“Ade, did you make a mistake? Who did what? I really don’t know anything!”

Her voice still trembled, but she forced herself to be brave. Yet in the next second, he shoved her away hard, then took out a handkerchief to wipe his hands, as if he had just touched something filthy.

Humiliation and anger surged within her, but her situation was so dire now that she didn’t even dare to utter a word in protest.

Mara had imagined many possible reactions from Adrian, but she had never expected him to suddenly fly into a rage after hearing her words.

The disgust and hatred in his eyes were like a dull knife cutting into her, torturing her over and over.

But what was even harder for her to accept was what Adrian said next.

“Five years ago, you orchestrated everything and nearly got Eve raped. Now, I’m just returning your own methods to you. You’d better hold on, or else this game won’t be any fun.”

Mara felt as if all the blood in her body froze in that instant.

Evelyn, who had just left; those people whose hands had been broken not long ago; herself, locked in the basement; and this strange yet somewhat familiar face beside her.

All the clues wove together in her mind, finally forming an answer she could hardly accept.

“So, you did all this because of Evelyn?”

Adrian neither confirmed nor denied it. He stood up, affirming her guess. “As long as all of you get what you deserve, Eve will definitely forgive me.”

After speaking, he looked at the man who was desperately trying to make himself less noticeable, then tossed out a sentence: “She’s yours now. Remember, the more miserable she is, the more hope you have of leaving this place.”

Hearing this, the man suddenly looked up, a forced smile spreading across his face as he watched Adrian leave the basement. He didn’t forget to assure him, “Mr. Wolfe, don’t worry, I won’t let you down!”

Seeing the man approaching, Mara instinctively tried to escape, but the chains held her fast, leaving her nowhere to run.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Adrian’s figure growing more distant, and Mara finally broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

“Ade, you can’t do this to me!”

“Ade, I was wrong, I’ll apologize, just don’t leave me!”

“Adrian!”

The basement was well soundproofed, but even so, it couldn’t block out Mara’s cries and pleas for mercy.

Those who had once bullied her were now getting what they deserved. It should have been a satisfying turn of events, yet she couldn’t feel even a trace of happiness.

Adrian crouched in front of her, testing the waters as he asked, “Well, Eve, are you satisfied? If you’re not, just tell me. As long as it makes you feel better, as long as you can forgive me, I’ll do anything.”

She looked up at Adrian, whose suit was still perfectly unwrinkled even now. The stifling resentment in her chest refused to dissipate.

After a moment’s thought, she gazed at the face that had remained detached from the beginning, and Evelyn finally understood where her sense of discomfort came from.

“Is that all?” she said.

Adrian was taken aback, then his expression softened, his eyes filled with indulgence. It seemed that no matter what she said, he wouldn’t be angry—he would only wonder what more he could do.

“What does Eve think is missing?”

Evelyn’s gaze grew colder as she continued to look at his face, her voice calm. “Not enough people.”

“Adrian, the people who bullied me back then weren’t just them.”

Hearing this, Adrian’s expression turned cold. He gripped her wrist, but tried hard to suppress the chill in his voice. “Who else? Tell me. I told you, I won’t let a single person who hurt you get away.”
