After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 20
The news that the right hands of the younger generation from four families had been brutally severed quickly spread. On that same day, as Evelyn was preparing to go to the company as usual, she had just gotten into the car when she suddenly lost consciousness. When she awoke, she found herself in a room that felt strangely familiar in every detail.
She thought for a long time before finally remembering that it was the room she had stayed in five years ago, when Adrian brought her back to the Wolfe’s mansion.
With that realization, it became obvious who had drugged her and brought her here.
She got up and walked toward the door, but when she tried to pull it open, she discovered it had been locked from the outside and couldn’t be opened at all.
“Ms. Rowe, you’re awake? Please wait a moment, we’ll go get Mr. Wolfe right away.”
Before Evelyn could respond, hurried footsteps quickly faded away outside the door. After glancing around and confirming that every possible exit was blocked, Evelyn simply resigned herself to the situation and lay down.
She was curious to see what exactly he intended to do.
Evelyn didn’t have to wait long. After only a short while, the bedroom door was pushed open and Adrian, dressed in a sharp suit, walked in. Seeing her sitting quietly, he couldn’t help but curve his lips into a faint smile.
Familiar faces and a familiar room—if he hadn’t already prepared himself mentally, perhaps seeing this scene again would have left him stunned.
“Eve…”
He called out instinctively, and the person before him turned around, her eyes devoid of any emotion.
But Adrian seemed not to notice, and simply smiled as he laid out everything he had done for her.
“Eve, I restored this room again later. Look, isn’t it exactly the same as when we used to live here?”
It truly was exactly the same.
Even the photo frame they had accidentally broken during an argument was replicated perfectly and placed in its original spot. It was clear just how much effort he had put in over the years.
But what was lost was lost. No matter how much he tried to make up for it, they could never return to the way things were.
“Why did you bring me here? What exactly do you want?” she pressed her lips together and frowned at him.
A heavy silence hung between them. Adrian lowered his eyes with a bitter smile, his voice tinged with sorrow. “Eve, must things between us really be so tense?”
Evelyn didn’t answer, but the answer was already clear.
After a long pause, he sighed. “I’ve been trying to prove myself, Eve. Those who crushed the bones in your hand back then—I caught them all and destroyed their hands.”
“Next, it’s Mara’s turn.”
He stepped forward, ignoring Evelyn’s resistance, grabbed her hand, and led her to the basement.
Unlike the room where she had woken up, the basement was dark and damp. It hadn’t been maintained for a long time and even carried a faint, moldy smell that was almost unbearable.
In the very center of the basement was Mara, her hands and feet shackled with chains.
Her hair was disheveled and dirty. When she heard the door open, she instinctively looked up, hoping Adrian had come to see her, to let her out.
Adrian really did come, but not to set her free.
As they entered, another person was thrown in with them.
A man who had just been released from prison not long ago, now tightly bound and tossed into the basement.
“Eve, how do you want to punish them? I’ll do whatever you say. Don’t be afraid, I’ll always be by your side, with you.”
Adrian spoke with deep affection, his unrestrained voice echoing in the basement. The first to break down was the man who had just been thrown in.
He burst into tears, snot and all, and without hesitation clung to Adrian’s leg, begging for mercy. “President, I didn’t do anything, please let me go…”
But before he could finish, Adrian kicked him away with a look of utter disgust.
Evelyn recognized the man. Painful memories from the past suddenly surfaced, and she instinctively took a step back, her face turning pale as a chill ran down her spine.
The next second, a wave of warmth spread from her wrist. Following the hand that held hers upward, she saw Adrian’s face, filled with regret and concern.
“Eve, it’s all my fault. I didn’t think it through. Let me take you out of here, all right? Leave them to me. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure everyone who ever hurt you pays the price.”
