When he returns to the pack house, the lights are blazing.
Leo has a cooling patch on his forehead, his little cheeks flushed bright red.
He slides off the sofa and runs toward him, his voice hoarse. “Dad, where’s Mom? Why hasn’t she come back?”
Grayson crouches down and touches Leo’s forehead. Still burning hot.
“Mom has things to do.”
“No!” Leo stomps his foot, tears welling up. “I have a fever! I want Mom! She always stays with me when I’m sick! She tells me stories and holds me…”
Crying and rambling, his face twists, and he suddenly spits out a vicious curse: “Filthy whore! Why won’t she come back?!”
But right after cursing her, he breaks down sobbing again. “Mom… I want Mom…”
Grayson freezes.
It hits him like a physical blow. The “filthy whore” and the “Mom” his pup is crying for are the exact same person.
How could a four-year-old pup even know such vile words?
In the past, whenever Leo got sick, Maeve would fight tooth and nail to care for him herself.
She would stay awake all night, cherishing every second, praying to the Moon Goddess for his recovery.
Over time, Leo just got used to it.
For toys and fun, he looked for Auntie Serena. For pain, sickness, and nightmares, he cried for his mother.
But now, she’s gone.
Grayson scoops Leo into his arms, murmurs a few comforting words, and hands him to the Omega nanny.
He walks into his study, shuts the door, and his eyes fall on the Severance Pact.
The line for the Alpha’s signature is blank.
He never intended to sign it.
When she signed her name without hesitation, it made his chest tight with fury-who gave her the right?
She cheated. She betrayed him. Why was she more decisive than him?

Still, absolute silence.
The study is dead quiet, save for the ticking clock.
