Too Late For Redemption Chapter 11
Three years passed.
Leo waged a three-year corporate war against the Carter family.
He finally took the helm of the Carter empire and broke off his engagement to Ms. Kensington.
With Luna gone, he dismissed all the maids and servants, staying alone at Beverly Hills Manor, guarding the house where the two of them had lived for fifteen years.
It was Luna’s birthday once again.
Just like every other year, he woke up early and baked a large cake.
But he didn’t eat a single bite.
Three years of ruthless corporate warfare had completely ruined his health, and the sheer physical and mental exhaustion had left him with stomach cancer.
Eventually, he forced down a few bites, only to rush to the bathroom and throw it all up.
To be honest, the moment he learned his days were numbered, he actually felt a sense of relief.
Having scoured the entire mortal realm with no news of her, he could simply go down to the underworld and continue the search for his love.
When the first heavy snow of the year fell in Kingston, he drove to Nora’s apartment building.
“I know you took my mother-in-law’s ashes back then.
Please, tell me where she’s buried…”
Nora let out a soft scoff.
“Mother-in-law?
Leo, do you even deserve to call her that?”
Nora turned around and headed upstairs.
Leo remained kneeling outside.
The heavy snow fell, burying him like a snowman, yet he refused to leave.
Leo knew his days were numbered.
After a full day and night like this, he fell into a daze.
So delirious that he actually saw the back of the woman he yearned for day and night – Luna.
“Luna?”
The howling wind drowned out his voice.
The girl didn’t hear him and walked straight up the stairs.
He hurriedly braced his hands against the ground to stand, but his knees, having knelt for a whole day, gave out, sending him crashing hard into the snow.
After several failed attempts, he finally staggered his way up to the fifth floor, just in time to see Luna walking up to Nora’s door.
“Luna?”
Leo panted heavily, his face flushed red.
“It really is you, Luna!
Where have you been all these years?
How did you survive?
Are you hurt?
Do you have any idea how worried I was…”
He reached out both hands, ready to grab Luna, but a foreign man pulled her back and shielded her behind him.
“Who are you?”
“Leo, Luna’s husband.” He looked at the man warily.
“And who are you?”
Seeing the man again after so many years, Luna felt no ripples in her heart; she only found his petty possessiveness utterly ridiculous.
Leo stepped closer to take Luna’s hand, but William landed a solid punch on his stomach.
Seeing that the two men were about to brawl, Luna rushed forward and hugged William’s waist.
“William!”
She knew Leo didn’t get into fights easily, but once he did, he would be ruthless.
Leo looked on in disbelief.
“He struck first, and you’re protecting him?
What is he to you!”
Hearing the commotion, Nora hurried downstairs and opened the door.
“Luna!
William!
What are you guys doing here!”
Leo’s eyes were so bloodshot they looked ready to bleed.
“I won’t lose my temper with you, just come home with me and explain everything properly!”
He stepped up to grab Luna’s hand, but Luna pulled the foreign man and took a step back.
“I have nothing to explain to you.” Her expression was indifferent.
“Please leave my friend’s house, or I’ll call the police for trespassing!”
Leo’s chest tightened.
“Luna, please stop joking around.
I know I was wrong.” Luna’s nonchalant look sent a wave of panic through his heart.
“I’ve already sent that human trafficker Mia to prison.
I am now the only one who calls the shots in the Carter family, and there won’t be any obstacles for us to be together anymore.”
“Don’t you remember our promise to be together for a lifetime?”
He pleaded, “From now on, I’ll do whatever it takes to get you anything you want.
I’m willing to do anything, even slave away to make amends, okay?”
Luna looked at him apathetically.
“Then, can you bring my mother back to life?
Can you cure my permanent total color blindness?”
