Too Late For Redemption Chapter 12
“I never want to see you again in this lifetime. Stop bothering me and my friends!”
The door slammed shut with a bang.
“Luna, Luna!”
Tears fell from Leo’s eyes.
Back then, relying on being a few years older, he thought he was omnipotent and that everyone was supposed to revolve around him.
Whether it was the Carter family elders, the strategic marriage, or the canary… they were all just symbols of his status and position.
It wasn’t until Luna left that he realized – he had won the business war and claimed the seat of the Carter family patriarch, but he never smiled again.
The girl who used to laugh with him, cry with him, and drape a coat over his shoulders was gone.
Only then did it hit him.
Without her by his side, Leo was nothing but an empty shell.
He refused to accept it; he could wait.
Luna had suffered such great grievances; it was only normal for her to be a little angry.
“If you won’t see me, I’ll kneel right here and wait today!”
They ignored him.
Nora pressed Luna down onto a stool to rest.
“Luna, I’m so sorry.
I don’t know why he keeps coming around lately, asking where your mother’s grave is.”
Luna and William exchanged a glance.
In truth, they had long since brought her mother back to the estate in Florence.
“I’m the one who should be sorry for him constantly bothering you.
You should have told me earlier; a simple call to the police would have solved it.”
Nora looked at her face, no longer as pale as when she delivered the ashes back then, her eyes brimming with tears.
“To be honest, when I got that call from the police station three years ago, it scared me to death.”
Thank goodness everything was alright now.
“Let’s not talk about that.
How is your perfume business doing?”
Luna dug out a custom-blended perfume and a Rose Quartz Healing Bracelet from her bag.
“I made this especially for you.
William picked the color for me.
My grandparents asked me to return to handle some affairs, so I brought it along for you!”
She carefully slipped it onto the girl’s wrist.
Back then in the upper class, many were jealous of her and kept their distance; only Nora always believed in her and stayed by her side.
This was her last bit of warmth in Kingston.
“Nora,” Luna said, “thank you for always staying by my side.”
The doorbell rang.
“Hello, police department.
Who made the report?”
Nora froze, surprised that Luna had actually called the police.
William stepped forward to open the door, and Luna spoke.
“Hello officer, this man has repeatedly harassed us downstairs.
The residential complex has security footage.”
“Luna!”
Leo was in disbelief.
He wanted to know what Luna had been through these past few years, if she was healthy, and what she had been up to lately.
Who was that William, and what right did he have to stay by her side?
But Luna’s coldness made him too afraid to ask.
In his desperation, he only dared to ask one thing.
“Luna, is there really no chance for us anymore?”
Right before getting into the car, Luna said.
“Leo, I never liked joking with you.
The divorce wasn’t a joke, leaving wasn’t a joke, and never seeing you again isn’t one either!”
The car sped away.
Leo chased after the car, eventually falling hard onto the ground, never to get up again.
Three days later.
Leo’s assistant briefly delivered the news of Leo’s passing, respectfully handing Luna a stack of envelopes.
“This is Mr. Carter’s entire estate.
I hope you will accept it.
Besides this, he had also been continuously donating to children with eye diseases in impoverished mountainous areas…”
The room fell silent for a long moment.
“I’ll accept it.
William, donate it to the Evans charity fund for me!”
The snow this winter was falling so heavily.
Luna murmured with a sigh.
William draped a shawl over her shoulders.
“Next spring will surely bring the brightest sunshine, Ms. Evans.”
Luna smiled.
