15 Days Before I Left Him Chapter 22
Before Genevieve could answer, his expression immediately became agitated.Â
“I can explain. At first, I just thought Dorothy was my savior. I never had any feelings for her, and nothing ever happened between us.”
“It wasn’t until after you left… After you left, I realized that…” A few choking sobs escaped Anthony’s throat, and tears slid from the corners of his eyes. It took him a while to compose himself before he continued speaking.
“It turns out that on New Year’s Day six years ago, the person who saved me was you. I had mistaken someone else all along.”
Anthony looked at Genevieve with reddened eyes, filled with regret, guilt, annoyance, and also a trace of hidden hope. He hoped that after she learned the truth, she would forgive him and reconcile with him.
Unfortunately, he had miscalculated.
When Genevieve learned that the savior Anthony referred to was from that New Year’s Day six years ago, she was indeed very surprised. Back then, when Anthony first introduced Dorothy to her, he never mentioned exactly when Dorothy had saved him. And that year, after she woke up in the hospital, she was unwilling to bring up that night in front of Anthony. So, this was the source of the misunderstanding.
Even now, when Genevieve had long since let go of the past, she could not help but sigh at the tricks fate played.
Seeing that Genevieve remained silent, Anthony cautiously probed. “Evie, I didn’t let Dorothy have that child back then. She already had an abortion. Now I know I mistook the person. Can we go back to the way things were?”
Anthony’s words pulled Genevieve’s thoughts back to the present, and she shook her head without hesitation. “It’s impossible now.”
Anthony’s face instantly turned pale, his gaze dropping to the floor. Her resolute tone completely shattered the tiny sliver of hope he had left in his heart. He had waited for Genevieve for two years, but he had never imagined it would end like this. He thought Genevieve would love him forever.
Anthony looked at her with a trembling voice and asked. “Why? I do like you.”
Seeing Anthony’s stubbornness, Genevieve recalled what she had been like when she was in love with him. He had never taken the initiative to prepare gifts for her. He had never been as close to her as other people’s boyfriends were. He had never once said the word ‘love.’ Yet, back then, Genevieve firmly believed that Anthony cared for her. Otherwise, why would he agree to be with her? She thought his coldness was simply due to his personality, and that one day she would be able to change him. With this belief, she had persisted for five years.
Until Dorothy appeared and shattered her pitiful self-delusion, making it impossible for her to deceive herself any longer.
But now, Anthony claimed that he liked her. A mocking smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
“Are you really sure you like me?”
