The Wife He Underestimated Chapter 11

The Wife He Underestimated Chapter 11

Epilogue

Five years later, I received a letter.

Not an email. An actual letter, on expensive stationery, delivered by courier to my office in Zurich.

I recognized the handwriting immediately.

Marcus.

I almost threw it away without reading. But curiosity won.

Dear Isabelle,

I heard about your latest acquisition–the renewable energy portfolio across Scandinavia. Brilliant move. You always did see three moves ahead of everyone else.

I’m writing to say something I should have said ten years ago: I’m proud of you. Not of what you’ve become–you were always this person. I’m proud

that you finally let the world see what I was too blind to appreciate.

You were magnificent. You are magnificent.

I don’t expect forgiveness. I don’t deserve it. But I wanted you to know that I finally understand what I lost. Not a wife. Not a business partner. But an

equal. A queen in her own right.

I hope you’re happy. I hope you’re thriving. I hope you never think of me.

You deserve everything.

– Marcus

I read it twice.

Then I put it in my desk drawer, with the other letters he’d sent over the years. Apologies, observations, congratulations on my successes.

I’d kept them all, though I wasn’t sure why.

Maybe because they were proof that I’d mattered to someone once, even if he’d only realized it after I left.

Maybe because they reminded me of what I’d escaped.

Or maybe because deep down, a tiny part of me was glad he finally understood!

But it didn’t change anything.

I didn’t want him back. I didrit need him back.

I was happy–genuinely, completely happy–without him.

11

And that was the menest success of all.

+45 Coins

I closed the drawers addreturned to work.

The Moretti entrepans waiting.

And I had words to coonouer

  1. Sounds like something Trump would write if he were a woman (but still mentally 8 years old). “I don’t need anyone” lol yeah, just a “$800 million trust fund” to “start from scratch” and “build from *NOTHING*” LMAO
