The Baby I Never Told Him About Chapter 05

Matthias and I both knew.

Back then, when he punished himself for the two children I lost, the two stab wounds he drove into his own abdomen missed the right place.

Later, the doctor said the damage was permanent. The chances of him ever having children were extremely low.

When I found out I was pregnant, I laughed and cried at the same time. I thought heaven had finally shown me kindness.

I hid the test report in my pocket, waiting to share the news after trying on the wedding dress.

I imagined countless times how excited Matthias would be when he found out.

We’d decorate the nursery together, shop for baby things, flip through a baby name book, and choose a name one letter at a time.

The baby would learn to walk, stumble into our arms, and call us “Mom” and “Dad.”

I imagined everything, except this. Reality hit me without warning and left me bleeding.

What came first wasn’t the baby. It was Matthias’ betrayal.

Now I was giving it all back to him, the child and those wasted ten years.

The room descended into chaos. Matthias rushed forward too fast, knocking over the coffee table. He practically fell to his knees in front of me.

Blood spread beneath me, soaking my clothes and staining the carpet.

Matthias’ mouth hung open. His whole body shook.

His hand hovered in the air, but he didn’t dare touch me. His eyes were so red it looked like he might cry blood.

“I didn’t know. I really didn’t know, Paula. Our child…”

“911. Right. Call 911,” he muttered incoherently, fumbling for his phone.

But just as he dialed, a hand snatched the phone away and turned it off.

Matthias glared at Michelle, eyes bloodshot. “Are you trying to get yourself killed?”

“Matty, did you forget? I studied nursing. I can help,” Michelle said.

He froze for two seconds, then moved aside like he’d grabbed a lifeline.

Her cold gaze swept over me.

She crouched down and pretended to check me. Then, her sharp nails dug into my lower abdomen, pressing hard again and again.

Pain exploded, and my vision went black. I couldn’t even scream.

Warm blood kept flowing. My breathing grew shallow.

Her vicious whisper brushed my ear. “One illegitimate child isn’t enough. I prefer two bodies.”

She pushed me away and shook her head in mock disbelief. “Ms. Simpson, you’re hopeless.”

“With this much bleeding, a normal person would already be dead. Do you think everyone’s stupid?”

Matthias grabbed her wrist. “What do you mean?”

Michelle sighed theatrically. “Matty, you were fooled. I know how to check a pulse, and she isn’t pregnant at all. She’s perfectly fine. This half-dead act is fake. She’s probably hiding bags of fake blood.”

He looked at her, then at me. His voice turned cold. “This is all fake?”

She slipped her arm around him. “She went to all this trouble to fake a miscarriage just to avoid apologizing. Forget it. I won’t argue with her. Let’s go. Once there’s no audience, she’ll stop acting.”

I forced myself to grab his pant leg. “Hospi…”

Matthias crouched down and held my hand.

He smiled. Then, he pried my fingers loose, one by one.

“Paula, you’ve disappointed me.”

“If you love acting so much, stay here and perform.”

He wrapped an arm around Michelle’s shoulders and walked out, leaving me staring after him in despair.

I lay on the floor. The last ten years played in my mind like a montage.

In the end, it all dissolved into nothing.

Tears slid down my temples. Just before I lost consciousness, the door burst open.

A group of people rushed in.

I heard someone shout urgently, “Help her! Hurry!”
