The Baby I Never Told Him About Chapter 03

I covered my burning cheek and turned my head in disbelief.

Michelle rolled her wrist. The gentle expression on her face vanished. “You heard Matty. He already married me, and you’re still clinging to him? Have some shame.

If you like being the other woman and letting men trash your dignity, go find a corner to sell yourself.

“But someone like you, throwing yourself at a man for free for ten years, belongs with the trash.”

My head buzzed. All I could see was her sharp, sneering face and the mouth that wouldn’t stop moving.

I laughed in anger, but Michelle didn’t give me a chance to react. She suddenly screamed, yanked open the front of her dress, and fell backward.

“Paulina!”

A cold voice cut through the air behind me.

Matthias rushed over, helped Michelle up, and pulled her into his arms.

She cried so hard she could barely stand. Tears came instantly. “Matty, I’m the other woman. I ruined your relationship with Ms. Simpson. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have appeared. I’m a terrible person.”

As she spoke, she slapped herself twice.

Matthias grabbed her hand. His brows trembled. “Who said that to you?”

Michelle bit her lip and clutched her dress. “Please don’t ask.”

But when her eyes flicked toward me, she shook her head fearfully. “Someone like me can’t afford to offend wealthy ladies like her. Matty, I’m not good enough for you. Let me go. I don’t want to end up dead for no reason.”

He frowned and looked at me coldly. “Explain yourself!”

I lowered my hand, revealing my swollen cheek. “You should ask what she said to me.”

“Ms. Simpson!” Michelle shouted, her voice sharp. “I slapped you, but that’s because you threatened my parents’ lives. They’re just ordinary people. If you’re still angry, you can hit me back. Just please don’t hurt them.”

My eyes burned red. “You’re lying. You were the one who—”

“Enough,” Matthias cut me off, disappointment in his eyes. “Paulina, I spoiled you too much.

“Do you think because you have no parents, I won’t dare touch you?”

Maybe I saw it coming, or maybe I’d already gone numb.

I laughed bitterly, my eyes stinging. “So how are you going to stand up for your wife?”

He walked toward me slowly and slid the ring off my finger. It was the one he made for me himself after earning his first fortune.

Then, he turned to his assistant, Leon Goodwin. “Call the police. My wife’s jewelry has been stolen. The suspect was caught with it.”

I froze, and my mind went blank.

Matthias hadn’t had an easy rise. He’d always been ruthless.

I was his only weakness. No matter right or wrong, he always chose me.

No one in New York ever dared to use dirty tricks on me.

But now, the person driving the knife into my heart was him.

Matthias rubbed the ring between his fingers. His cold features blurred through the tears in my eyes. He looked more and more like a stranger.

“Paula, you’ve been very disobedient. You should reflect for a few days.

“Don’t worry. It won’t be long. When you come out, I’ll put the ring back on you myself.”

I curled my lips in a mocking smile.

The officers walked in. As they cuffed me, I pulled my hand free from his grasp without expression.

The sudden emptiness made him frown uneasily. He stared at my back, with the strange feeling that he was about to lose me forever.

He was about to step forward when Michelle looped her arm through his.
