Love Is Gone Chapter 02

Love Is Gone Chapter 02

I was never liked as a child, all because I ate too much.

The Bennetts were a Scholarly family.

Every single one of them was disciplined to the extreme.

But I was different.

I was carefree, unable to take another step whenever I saw delicious food.

Before I turned eighteen, my parents took me for several comprehensive medical checkups to see if I had an endocrine disorder.

Every time they looked at the “everything is normal” results, they would shake their heads helplessly.

“Chloe’s appetite is just too voracious.”

“Honey, is she really our child?”

“Sigh… Chloe will have to face the media alongside Alexander in the future. If she’s always this fat, well…”

They never shied away from saying these things in front of me, and I never took them to heart.

That was until Alexander successfully secured a massive overseas project, and the family was going to host a celebration banquet.

I stayed up all night that evening, personally preparing over a dozen grand dishes to give him a surprise.

Early the next morning, sporting dark circles under my eyes, I excitedly pulled Alexander to the dining table.

“Alexander, look! A celebration banquet! I made it!”

He looked at the table full of greasy, glistening dishes; his brow twitched slightly, but the corners of his mouth turned cold.

His business partners, dressed in sharp suits, arrived one after another. Seeing this table of food, their expressions became rather subtle.

“Alexander, your sister really has… great culinary skills.” One of the partners said with a dry laugh.

Alexander’s face darkened completely.

For the first time, he lost his temper beyond endurance.

“You stayed up all night just to make this unpresentable garbage?

“Chloe, today is my celebration banquet.

“Can you please stop embarrassing me!”

I wanted to explain, but he wouldn’t listen to a word.

The very next day, he sent me to Eleanor’s Troubled Teen Boot Camp.

…

These events used to be crystal clear in my mind.

But now, I could only recall a few fragmented memories and a single impatient scolding from Alexander.

As for the rest, I had forgotten it entirely.

My head ached more and more, and I couldn’t help but raise a hand to press against my stomach.

Mom looked at me in confusion, warmly holding my hand.

That was until a teenage boy ran down from upstairs and snatched the cutlery right out of Mom’s hand.

“Wow, Auntie, the steak smells amazing today! Can I have a piece first?”

“Of course you can, Oliver. Go ahead and eat, have some more, you’re a growing boy.”

Mom was far more affectionate toward that boy named Oliver than she was to me, her own biological daughter.

Alexander frowned and looked my way.

A memory suddenly flashed through my mind—of being caught sneaking snacks as a child, and my parents scolding me for having no self-control.

I quickly forced a smile.

“You guys eat, I’m not hungry.”

I watched thoughtfully as they surrounded Oliver, constantly putting food on his plate, and they even offered a compliment, “Eat up, so you can grow tall.”

“Are you really not going to eat? You’re not craving it?” Oliver looked a bit bewildered and asked me.

I tried hard to maintain the smile on my face, but my stomach was churning.

“Of course not. Eleanor taught me that excessive appetite is an original sin.”

Alexander’s tightly furrowed brow relaxed, and a smile reached his eyes.

But Oliver just glared at me, slammed his silverware down, and made an excuse to retreat to the bedroom.

I didn’t know why he was angry, and I panicked a little.

“What’s wrong with that boy? I just told him to eat more, why did he get upset?” I quickly asked Alexander.

“That boy?” the smile on Alexander’s face froze. “You don’t remember Oliver? He’s Eleanor’s son, you’ve met him several times.”
