Love Fades With Bygone Days Chapter 15

When she saw me walk in with a man, she smiled broadly.

“Vivi, is this your boyfriend?”

I shook my head and told her in English that he was just a friend.

Tomas sat across from me, his eyes never leaving my face.

He watched me chat with the owner.

He watched me order from the menu with practiced ease.

He watched the genuine smile that touched my lips when I spoke.

He hadn’t seen me smile like that in a very, very long time.

Or maybe, in the last years of our relationship, I had simply stopped.

When the food arrived, he took one bite and grimaced slightly. He clearly wasn’t used to it.

But he didn’t say a word and slowly ate everything on his plate.

Because this was my life now.

And he wanted to know every part of it.

Halfway through the meal, he put down his fork and looked at me.

“Esme, I’m sorry.”

He had said those words before.

But this time, his voice was trembling.

I paused, then lowered my head and took another bite.

“I know saying sorry is useless,” he continued. “I just… I want you to know that I truly regret it.”

“It’s not because you left. That’s not why I regret it.”

“It’s because I finally realize I was wrong from the very beginning.”

I put down my fork and met his gaze.

“Tomas, let me ask you something.”

“If I had never found out about you and Alessia, would you still regret it?”

He went still.
