Love Fades With Bygone Days Chapter 10
At first, he had mistaken a moment of reckless impulse for love.
Later, it had simply dragged on for so long that he’d managed to fool even himself.
He went to see a lawyer, wanting to set aside some money for me.
The lawyer listened patiently, then cleared his throat.
“Mr. DeLuca, you are currently a married man.”
“Ms. Hayes is not a family member, nor is she your legal spouse.”
“Under the law, your wife is the primary heir to your estate.”
Wife.
When Tomas heard the word, he fell silent.
He remembered what I had said before I left.
“We’re not friends anymore. And Tomas… we’re over.”
We had been together for so long.
But I had never held any official place in his life.
Now that he wanted to make things right, he had no legal way to even try.
Later, he went to the hospital and found the doctor who had treated me.
The doctor remembered me.
As he pulled up my file, he sighed.
“Esme Hayes, yes?”
“Her condition was quite severe. There were several instances of serious self-harm. We nearly lost her a few times.”
The doctor looked up at him.
“Are you family?”
Tomas paused.
“I’m her ex-boyfriend.”
The doctor’s expression softened with understanding.
“During her stay, there was always a young woman with her. I assumed that was her sister.”
“What about her husband?”
Tomas had no idea how to answer.
He couldn’t tell the doctor that the woman who’d stayed by my side was his legal wife.
And he couldn’t say that while I was in the hospital, he had been at home with that wife and their child.
