I Was His Substitute Bride Chapter 47
Only at the station did I learn the details. Shortly after Spencer and I had left, trade secrets belonging to the Prescott Group had inexplicably appeared at a competitor’s product launch.
Mr. Prescott was furious. But the surveillance footage from those few days had conveniently malfunctioned. The only thing found at the scene were a few strands of my hair.
Someone also claimed to have seen me sneaking in and out of the building. So I was the prime suspect.
Clearly a setup.
All I could do was reiterate, again and again, that I had no opportunity to commit the crime.
The police needed to investigate further. I was ordered to remain in the detention center temporarily.
The first person to visit me was Cole.
Honestly, Cole and I hadn’t been in contact for a long time.
The day Spencer made the public announcement, Cole went crazy. Sent me over a hundred messages. All variations of the same thing. Asking if I was truly determined to be with Spencer. Blaming me for breaking my promise and not waiting for him.
I only replied with one line. “When did I ever say I’d wait for you?” Then blocked him. Deleted.
After that, he never contacted me again.
Now here he was, in front of me. A mask of cold arrogance. “Victoria, I am the Prescott Group’s legal counsel. If you’re willing to confess, I can consider putting in a good word for you.”
So he’d become the Prescott family’s lawyer.
Now, saying more meant more room for error. I couldn’t spare him a single glance.
