I Was His Substitute Bride Chapter 44

I gripped Spencer’s hand tightly. Sighed. “Your parents are definitely going to be furious.”

Spencer said, calm, “For too long, I cared too much about them. They told me to cozy up to Blair. I did. They said it was just meeting Blair, I wouldn’t lose anything. I agreed. Slowly, I gave up all my bottom lines.”

He looked at me. His gaze was steady. “Victoria, I want you to know. Even if I have to overturn the whole world, I will set your reflection right.”

Hearing such a dramatically cheesy line, I couldn’t help but laugh.

That naive boy from before seemed to have grown up.

If he was willing to change, then I was willing to change for him too.

Soon enough, Mr. and Mrs. Prescott stormed onto the scene. Unsurprisingly, they harshly scolded Spencer. Ordered him to retract the post. Say it was a Truth or Dare challenge.

Spencer stiffened his neck. Refused.

Mr. Prescott laughed coldly. “Fine. Fine. Spencer, you don’t know how good you have it. Then you can taste some hardship. Learn how the world works.”

He turned on his heel and stormed out.

Spencer, this time, was truly determined to see it through.

When his luggage was thrown out of the estate, he picked it up without complaint. Even dropped his house key on the ground. A statement of resolve.

Once outside the estate grounds, his bravado deflated. Uneasy, he said, “Honey, was I too harsh? They’ll blame me. That’s fine. But they’ll definitely take it out on you.”

At a time like this, how could I back down.

I held his hand. “Trust me. I’ll support you.”
