Sabrina’s voice trembled. “Cole…”
“Sabrina, we’re done. If you hadn’t cried and begged me before, saying your parents were pushing you to marry, that as soon as we got back they’d force you into an arranged marriage with some farmer back home, I would never have agreed to the engagement. I finally understand. What I felt for you was never romantic love. I only ever saw you as a little sister. I’ll do my best to communicate with your parents. But I will absolutely not marry you.”
Cole’s voice was uncharacteristically cold. Zero room for negotiation.
Sabrina’s mind went into a tailspin.
She knew Cole’s personality too well. Once he made a decision, he never looked back. If he was suggesting a breakup, there was truly no hope of reconciliation.
