Don Take Your Love To The Deep Sea Chapter 06

At Serena’s words, Gabriel Salvatti shifted his gaze slowly down to her rounded stomach.

That child was the living evidence of their betrayal. A physical witness to their sins.

“Serena.” His voice was empty. “Once you have this baby, we’re done. I’ll give you anything you want. Cash. A Cavallo interest in the Newport holdings. Whatever you need to keep the alliance intact for our fathers. Just never show your face to me again.”

“If Chloe comes home and sees you here, she won’t be happy.”

Serena’s face went bone white.

Over the past weeks, she had quietly made peace with the fact that Chloe was never coming back. She had even begun making discreet arrangements for a private mass at St. Mary’s. Whenever she looked at Chloe’s photo, beneath the performative grief, there was always a small flicker of dark relief.

Chloe had been the thorn between her and Gabriel for five years. Now that she was gone, Serena had thought they could finally step into the light.

Now Gabriel was ending it before it had even started.

“Why?” Her eyes welled with tears. “We fought so hard to get here, Gabe. This baby needs a mother and a father. Together.”

Gabriel looked at her with a chilling detachment she had never seen before.

“Have you forgotten who we are? You were her best friend. I was going to marry her. How could I possibly stay with you?”

He turned away and stared back out at the ocean.

“Drop it. Once the baby is born, I’m ending the alliance. Whatever it costs the Salvattis with your father, I’ll cover it. The seat next to me always belonged to Chloe. I treated her like an afterthought for too long. When she comes home, I am going to spend the rest of my life making it up to her.”

Serena bit her lip and stayed silent. She knew arguing with him in this state was useless.

The moment she was alone, she picked up her phone and retreated into the shadows. She began making calls to the very men Gabriel had hired to find me. She used her own network, the Cavallo network her father had spent thirty years building, to stall the search. To bury leads. To lose the divers she paid for herself.

She gripped the phone so hard her knuckles went white. She whispered into the darkness.

“I’m sorry, Chloe. But you’re dead. I have to look out for my own happiness now. Please. Don’t hate me for this.”
