Divorced With Kids Now His True Love Chapter 30
Chapter 30: Ivy Really Was His and Harper’s Child
A housekeeper came down from the second floor and said to Harper, “Ms. Schmitt, Mr. Lowe would like to see your upstairs.”
Harper took a deep breath, telling herself over and over not to jump to conclusions until she knew the full story.
*What if there’s an explanation?*
*What if it’s all just a misunderstanding?*
Clinging to that hope, Harper made her way to William’s study.
Meanwhile, Presley Jensen had found Sienna Schmitt.
Sienna was stunned after hearing what Presley had to say.
“That bitch Harper is back? Hasn’t she been gone for five years? Why the hell would she come back now?”
Harper had vanished for five years, as if she’d dropped off the face of the earth. Sienna had almost convinced herself she was dead.
“William found her in Azureland. Sienna, I know you hate her too. She’s our common enemy, so you have to help me.”
Sienna had always despised Harper, who had been effortlessly brilliant since they were kids, mastering anything she tried.
Everyone adored her. She was the star of the show, dazzling and bright, while Sienna was completely invisible next to her.
Then Harper had to go and marry into a powerhouse family like the Lowes, becoming the esteemed Mrs. Lowe. Their lives became worlds apart.
Why did Harper get a brain that could learn anything instantly?
Why did Harper get to marry into the Lowe family?
She couldn’t accept it.
She was determined to surpass Harper, to see her fall from grace. It wasn’t about anything else-it was pure spite.
So, under no circumstances could Harper become the lady of the Lowe family again.
“Fine, I’ll help you. What do you need me to do?”
“I need you to keep an eye on her. See if she has a child with her. If she does, you have to tell me immediately.”
When Harper walked into William’s study, she was met with the same oppressive atmosphere as always, a product of its stark black-and-white decor.
The kind of design only an ice king like William would appreciate.
“How’d you escape?” William asked, setting down his pen and lifting his dark, intense eyes to stare at her. He had been reviewing some documents.
Harper looked back at him, her delicate features a mask of neutrality, but her heart was pounding against her ribs.
William gestured with his chin, dismissing the housekeeper.
The staff member left, closing the door behind her. The study was silent, leaving just the two of them alone.
The silence only amplified the suffocating tension in the air.
Harper’s lips tightened. “I’m not a criminal. You don’t have to make it sound so ugly.”
William raised an eyebrow, and Harper heard him let out a cold, humorless laugh.
He had no idea how she could do something so wrong and still act so brazen. If he hadn’t cleaned up her mess, she’d be sitting in a defendant’s chair right now.
His icy laughter only cranked up her anxiety, but she fought to keep any hint of nervousness from showing.
“So,” he asked, “what are you here for?”
Harper didn’t want to waste time, so she cut right to the chase. “What was last night all about? And what’s the deal with posting two guys outside my door to watch me?”
William had planned to deal with the Ivy situation first before settling the score with Harper, but he hadn’t expected her to show up on his doorstep herself.
And she had the nerve to ask *him* what was going on.
The memory of last night sent a fresh wave of anger through him. “You don’t know what you did? You have the audacity to come here and ask why I have people watching you? It’s to keep you from running away, obviously.”
*So that’s it.*
He really was afraid she’d run off with the child.
He really had found out about her.
Harper froze, her hands clenching into fists at her sides as a chill washed over her.
Fine.
Since he already knew, they might as well get it all out in the open today.
Harper lifted her chin. “Fine, I get it. You’re just hung up on the child-”
*Ding.*
*Ding.*
*Ding.
A series of rapid-fire WhatsApp notifications cut her off. Harper’s brow furrowed as she lifted her phone to check the messages.
Adrian Shaw had sent a photo. It was of the main screen in the Lowe Group lobby, which now displayed two cartoon figures and several large words: “I’m a scumbag, I’m a bitch, a match made in heaven.”
Adrian: *About last night. A mystery hacker hit the Lowe Group’s system.*
Adrian: *Take a guess who did it.*
Harper’s eyes widened.
*Someone hacked the Lowe Group’s system last night.*
*A hacker?*
The cartoon figures in the photo were clearly meant to be William and Presley.
*Was this Gavin and Jace’s doing?*
Who else could it be?
It all clicked into place. Gavin and Jace had hacked the Lowe Group’s system, and William had traced it back to her house.
When he found her there, he must have assumed *she was the one who did it, which explained why he was so furious last night and demanded an explanation.
Harper quickly replayed the previous night’s events in her head. It was all so obvious now.
So she’d gotten it all wrong.
The “explanation” William wanted was for the prank, not about the kids. Otherwise, he would have taken them with him last night.
The corner of Harper’s mouth twitched. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She put her phone away, forcing her expression to remain perfectly neutral as she looked up and continued where she’d left off. “Right, I get it. I’m hung up on the fact that Presley almost scalded my child with boiling water yesterday. And my hand. You didn’t believe me, so I had to get my revenge on you two in my own way.”
The chill on William’s face deepened. “Childish. Pathetic.”
Harper put on a convincing show of anger. “I’m childish? I’m pathetic? William, she did it on purpose yesterday! How else could she have aimed so perfectly at a child? Are you really so blind you can’t see that?”
William’s brow furrowed slightly. “I told you, it was an accident. She didn’t do it on purpose.”
Harper gritted her teeth.
“You moron.”
Her performance was flawless. After hurling the insult, she spun around and walked out.
The moment she was out the door, Harper shot a text to Aubrey Bishop, telling her William didn’t know and that she could come pick up Ivy.
Aubrey immediately replied with an “Okay!” and a sticker of a character rocketing over at top speed.
As she walked, Harper patted her chest. *That was close. So close.* If she’d been one second faster, she would have blown her own cover.
Thank God William hadn’t figured it out.
Harper hurried downstairs.
When Ivy saw her, she trotted over. “Mommy, when can I go?”
Seeing no one else around, Harper swept Ivy into an ecstatic hug, spinning her around twice.
“Ivy, we don’t have to be apart! Oh, my god… you scared Mommy to death, sweetie.”
Ivy held her little head, dizzy from the spinning, her big eyes filled with even more confusion.
*I’ll always be with Mommy. We were never going to be apart.*
“Mommy, I’ll never, ever be apart from you.”
Ivy gave her mom a comforting hug. “Don’t cry, Mommy. Let me hug you.”
Harper set Ivy down and put a finger to her lips in a hushing motion. “Ivy,” she whispered, “don’t call me ‘Mommy’ here. We could get caught.”
“Okay, Mommy. I won’t call Mommy ‘Mommy’ anymore.” Ivy covered her mouth with a chubby little hand.
Seeing that the coast was clear, Ivy secretly lowered her hand, peeked around conspiratorially, and whispered, “Mommy, is this okay?”
Harper was at a loss. “Uh…”
*My sweet, silly little girl.*
Just as William came down the stairs, he saw Harper and Ivy huddled together, whispering about something.
But he heard Ivy’s voice with perfect clarity. “Mommy, I missed Mommy so much…”
Then he heard Harper stroking Ivy’s head, saying, “You’ll get to go home with Mommy soon. Are you happy, Ivy?”
Hearing this, William’s heart lurched.
He slowed his steps.
*Mommy?*
Ivy called Harper… *Mommy!*
This time, he heard it with his own ears.
Ivy really was his and Harper Schmitt’s child.
where’s the rest? T^T
