After I Learned To Obey Why Did My Family Start To Regret It? Chapter 07
Those days were the happiest of my life.
Perhaps blood did matter. From the beginning, there had been no awkwardness between us.
Sean took me everywhere.
He used to say that as long as I smiled every day, he would give me anything I wanted.
If I got hurt, even slightly, the family would drag him away and scold him for failing to protect me. The scolding always lasted for hours.
I felt guilty every time. I would buy his favorite desserts and wait in his room.
But when he saw me, he blamed himself more than anyone.
“They’re right. You suffered for so many years. You shouldn’t have to suffer even a little now. I didn’t take good enough care of you.”
Gerald was not Alpha yet then.
He was not so cold.
He would mess up my hair like a child and secretly leave beautiful clothes and jewelry beside my pillow.
Then Tiffany came back.
My family told me she had always been frail.
They said she had fallen ill again and had been recovering in the hospital, which was why she had not met me when I returned.
They told me to take good care of her.
I thought my happy life had begun.
After that night, the accusations started.
At first there were only a few.
Then they came more and more often.
Everything before Tiffany returned became a dream I could not hold on to. I struggled for even one piece of it, but could only watch it disappear while fully awake.
At dinner, the five of them sat together in warmth and laughter.
Afterward, the person Tiffany had sent to gather information returned.
“She’s dead?”
Tiffany’s voice dropped. Excitement sharpened it.
“You’re sure? Completely dead?”
After what happened last time, she did not want another fake death.
“Yes. The Alpha called many doctors. They all said she couldn’t be saved.”
Tiffany finally relaxed.
The next morning at breakfast, she asked about me as if the thought had only just occurred to her.
“Where’s Harriet? One day in that prison is enough. She’s so frail. You can’t keep her there too long.”
Sean and Gerald both fell silent.
Tiffany tilted her head.
“What’s wrong? Won’t you even do this much for me?”
Sean was the one who answered.
“Harriet is dead.”
Elton sat frozen.
Anne stared at him.
“She was fine yesterday.”
No one spoke.
My body was brought back to the villa.
Anne sat beside it through the night and cried until morning.
I watched her quietly.
I still felt no grief.
After that, my name became forbidden.
Just as they had wished, Anne truly had only Tiffany left.
