After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 14
The next time Evelyn saw Adrian was one week after she returned to Los Angeles.
She had just completed her onboarding process and received her title as a senior designer when her supervisor handed her a contract. “The other party specifically requested you to negotiate this collaboration, Eve. This is a major deal—if we can secure it, our branch will finally establish itself in Los Angeles. You must make it happen!”
Evelyn looked at the proposal that had been stuffed into her arms with some astonishment, a hint of hesitation appearing between her brows. “They specifically asked for me?”
She furrowed her brows tightly, feeling that something was off.
Although she was originally from Los Angeles, she had once been just an ordinary person struggling at the bottom, worrying about making ends meet. Later, she became connected to Adrian and the Wolfe family, but few people truly paid her any attention.
After that, she went to Britain, spent two years specializing in architecture, and then took three more years to work her way up from a rookie designer to a senior designer. Although she had gained some reputation, she was far from being someone who would be named specifically for a collaboration. Besides, she had just returned to the country and was still a newcomer in the domestic architecture scene—how could anyone have specifically requested her?
Thinking of this, she suddenly remembered something and looked up at the design director, Elaina Carter.
“Since they want me to negotiate, shouldn’t I at least know who the other party is?” Seeing that Elaina remained silent, she continued to ask, “Do you know who it is?”
Elaina grinned broadly, her pride evident as she uttered a few words, “The Wolfe Group.”
The air instantly fell silent. The answer was not unexpected, but Evelyn still fell silent as she held the contract, not responding for a long time.
Elaina, however, seemed not to notice her reaction. She took a sip of water and began painting a rosy picture for her. “Eve, if you had told me earlier that you had connections with a big company like the Wolfe Group, I would have gladly given you my director position! Why settle for being just a senior designer?”
But Evelyn shook her head, her face showing no sign of joy. She lowered her eyes and remained silent for a long time before finally saying, “I don’t have any connections, and even if I did, I want to earn the director’s position with my own abilities.”
Elaina was taken aback, not expecting such an answer from her.
She gazed at Evelyn for a few moments, then suddenly laughed. “Alright, whether you have connections or not, you came back with me, and I trust your abilities. As for earning the director’s position on your own, you’ll just have to wait patiently for now.”
At this, she added with a teasing smile, “After all, I’m still young, and the Wilkins Group has no intention of appointing two design directors to keep each other in check for the time being.”
Hearing this, Evelyn also smiled. “Then I’ll just work harder and defeat you as soon as possible.”
In the end, Evelyn accepted the task of negotiating this deal.
After all, the Wilkins Group had just returned to the domestic market and desperately needed an opportunity to make a name for itself. Collaborating with the Wolfe Group was undoubtedly the best choice.
When an opportunity presents itself, there’s no reason to turn it away.
Yet, even though she had mentally prepared herself, Evelyn couldn’t help but steal another glance at Adrian when she saw him again.
After five years, he had changed a lot.
The aura of authority around him had grown much stronger, and his entire demeanor was more composed and cold. Almost as soon as he entered the meeting room, Adrian’s gaze locked directly onto Evelyn, who stood at the front.
He didn’t say a word, but the emotions in his eyes were so intense that they seemed ready to overflow at any moment, filled with both love and pain.
Evelyn didn’t know where this love and pain came from, nor did she care what he was thinking. Seeing that everyone had arrived, she began to present her proposal.
Time passed by the minute. When she finished, all the executives who had come with her were very satisfied. Only Adrian sat there in a daze the entire time, watching her as she passionately explained her designs, as if she were glowing.
