After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 11
Five years later.
The airplane streaked across the azure sky, leaving a white contrail behind. Adrian, with his cold and stern demeanor, strode ahead at a brisk pace. His assistant struggled to keep up while pushing the luggage, not daring to utter a single complaint. He was not the only one barely managing to follow.
“Ade, wait for me!”
The anxious voice of a woman echoed through the airport hall, but the man in front showed no intention of stopping. Instead, he walked even faster.
Mara was well aware of Adrian’s indifference, but she simply couldn’t bring herself to let go of the prize that was almost within her grasp.
Five years ago, they were just one step away from holding their wedding, and she would have become his rightful wife. Yet even now, she could only cling to the title of fiancée, pitifully trailing behind him, waiting for the day he might finally slow down and wait for her. More often than not, it was always her chasing after him.
In recent years, the Wolfe Group’s influence in Los Angeles had grown ever stronger, while the Ellington family gradually declined. The engagement between the Wolfe and Ellington families might be the Ellington family’s last trump card. As long as the Wolfe Group was willing to lend a hand, the Ellington family could rise again.
This was also why, after so many years, even though Adrian had never shown the Ellington family a kind face, the Ellington family never considered breaking off the engagement.
People came and went in the airport, and Mara’s voice did not attract much attention. Yet, that sudden call fell unimpeded into the ears of a woman who had just gotten off another flight. She paused for a moment, instinctively looking toward the source of the voice. All she could see was a partially obscured back, and nothing more.
That woman was Evelyn.
Dragging her suitcase, Evelyn gazed through the glass at the sky that was both unfamiliar and familiar, feeling a momentary sense of disorientation.
After five years, she had long since transformed from a penniless orphan into someone outstanding and confident.
In fact, she owed this to the generosity of the Wolfe family and Adrian.
Without the 23 million dollars they gave her, who knows what she would have encountered alone in a foreign country. Thanks to that money, she not only completed the studies she once had to abandon due to lack of funds, but also secured a good job.
Thinking of this, she recalled the name she had just heard and fell silent for a moment. After leaving all those years ago, Evelyn never thought she would one day return. When she finally decided to come back, she wondered if she would run into people she once knew.
Over the past five years, countless times in the middle of the night, she would dream of the same scene.
She dreamed of the moment when she first found Adrian.
It was already late at night. She had just finished a day of part-time work and, on her way home, saw a man lying in a pool of blood.
In that instant, all that flashed through Evelyn’s mind were the plots from the novels she read to relieve stress.
She almost thought she had stumbled into the scene of a vendetta.
The urge to avoid trouble filled her mind, and she instinctively wanted to leave. But at that moment, he suddenly reached out and grabbed the hem of her pants, using all his strength to say one sentence—
“Save me, I will repay you…”
But before he could finish, he fainted again.
At that time, Evelyn, who was still struggling to make ends meet, had no idea that Adrian was the sole heir to the Wolfe Group, one of the most powerful families in Los Angeles.
Later, Evelyn sometimes thought that if she had spent more time reading the news and gossip back then, she might have learned the truth sooner and avoided all the entanglements that followed.
Unfortunately, there are no ifs in this world.
Still, seeing that he was dressed decently and thinking of his promised reward, she took him to the hospital and paid his medical bills in advance.
She was even afraid he would run away upon waking, so she took a day off work to watch over him.
But she never expected that after waiting anxiously for a whole day, the news she would receive was that he had lost his memory.
