A Wedding That Never Was Chapter 12
After the surgery was successfully completed, Olivia stayed in the hospital for a week of observation. With no complications arising, she went through the discharge procedures.
Following her discharge, she subconsciously walked to the street stage where they had first crossed paths, unexpectedly stumbling upon a dance troupe in the middle of a rehearsal.
There was a young girl in the troupe with a high ponytail named Mia Pendelton. Naturally outgoing, she pulled her into joining the troupe without a second thought.
Olivia’s legs had recovered quite well, and since the troupe was about to host a dance showcase, she joined everyone in rehearsals and ultimately stood on the performance stage.
The moment the spotlight hit her and the music began to play, Olivia danced to the beat, a long-lost sense of familiarity washing over her entire body.
It was then that she truly felt she had been brought back to life.
As the dance concluded to thunderous applause, Olivia actually found herself yearning for more.
After changing her clothes and stepping out of the backstage area, she was just about to say goodbye to Mia when she heard the girl screaming at the top of her lungs: “Brother, how do you have time to come see my performance today?!”
Olivia was looking down, arranging her dance shoes, when a familiar male voice drifted into her ears: “I’m not here to see you.”
Her heart skipped a beat. She whipped her head around, only to see Logan standing behind her, holding a bouquet of vibrant red roses.
“I’m here to admire my patient’s wonderful performance.”
Mia looked back and forth between the two of them and suddenly let out a loud gasp: “So you two have known each other all along! You kept that hidden way too well!”
It suddenly dawned on Olivia that Mia was actually Logan’s younger sister.
From then on, Olivia often hung out with Logan and Mia, her days becoming lively yet peaceful.
Not long after, a renowned producer in the industry happened to see her dance. Highly impressed, he personally paid her a visit to invite her to choreograph a piece for a large-scale dance exhibition.
Olivia stayed up for several late nights, weaving her own experiences, the joy of her rebirth, and her gratitude toward Logan into the melody and lyrics, secretly writing his name into it.
To her surprise, the dance piece won the gold award at the exhibition in one fell swoop. Clutching the trophy, Olivia’s heart was filled with joy.
She wanted to share this good news with Logan the very first second she could. If it weren’t for him, she might have been confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
But when she actually stood in front of him, she hesitated. Remembering Alexander’s reaction, a hint of apprehension crept back into her heart.
Before Olivia could speak, Logan took the initiative to walk up to her: “Thank you for writing me into the lyrics. The piece is beautiful, and I love it. Congratulations, Olivia.”
His blessing was so open and sincere that a rush of warmth instantly flowed through Olivia’s heart.
Seeing this, Mia, who was standing to the side, clamored to throw a celebration party. Unable to shake her off, Olivia smiled and agreed.
Everyone was having a great time chatting at the celebration party. Olivia accompanied Mia to the restroom, and just as they reached the door, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure.
Alexander.
She froze in place instantly, never expecting to see him again on such an occasion.
Alexander saw her too, an intense wave of excitement instantly flashing in his eyes, as if he had just grasped a lost treasure that had finally been found.
Ever since the trail went cold at the hotel entrance last time, he had searched for her for a long time, but to no avail.
It wasn’t until this dance troupe recently rose to fame that he followed the news and found his way here.
Seeing Alexander staring fixedly at Olivia, Mia tugged at her arm in confusion: “Olivia, do you know him?”
Olivia snapped out of her daze and said flatly: “I don’t. Let’s go.”
Keeping her head down, she blended into the bustling crowd, not sparing Alexander a single glance as she walked past him.
Alexander stood frozen in place, only able to watch her retreating figure from afar, not daring to take a single step forward.
He didn’t know how to face Olivia, for all the pain from the past had been inflicted by his own hands.
Now, he didn’t even have the right to get close to her.
Yet seeing her leg fully healed and looking so radiant, an inexplicable sense of comfort settled in the depths of his heart.
After leaving the restaurant, Olivia rode in the same car with Logan and Mia.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Mia was still chattering away: “That handsome guy from earlier was such eye candy. I wonder if he’s taken.”
Olivia leaned back against the rear seat, her eyes closed in feigned sleep, not saying a word.
Seeing her listless expression, Logan grabbed a blanket from the car and draped it over her, then turned to Mia with a laugh: “Give it a rest. You want the number of every handsome guy you see—you’re way too boy-crazy.”
Choked by his teasing, Mia squawked in indignation.
Olivia kept her eyes closed, but her mind was a tangled mess.
She couldn’t figure out why Alexander had suddenly shown up; from the looks of it, it seemed like a premeditated move.
She was the one who had walked away back then, cutting off all contact. Logically, he should have gotten his happy ending with Chloe and lived a peaceful life—why bother looking for her again?
After turning it over and over in her head without finding a reasonable answer, she simply forced herself to let it go.
She treated the chance encounter as a mere accident and tossed it to the back of her mind.
However, for the rest of that afternoon, Olivia couldn’t muster any enthusiasm for the dance troupe’s activities.
Logan took it all in. After dropping Mia off at home, instead of taking Olivia back on the usual route, he drove her to the beach.
Olivia asked in confusion: “Why did you bring me here?”
Logan draped a jacket over her shoulders, his voice gentle: “You seemed a bit down, so I brought you here to relax.”
Olivia froze in place, a wave of warmth washing over her heart.
Her low spirits weren’t just because of Alexander’s sudden appearance, but also because this gold-medal showcase was her first major performance since her leg had healed.
The exhaustion of rehearsing late into the night for days on end, the anxiety of the competition—she had buried it all deep inside without a word to anyone, yet he had noticed it so easily.
After returning home, Olivia tried her best to adjust her mindset, treating her encounter with Alexander that day as a mere coincidence.
But fate had other plans. During her second dance performance, she actually spotted him in the theater again.
Alexander sat dead center in the front row, his gaze burning as he intently watched her perform on stage.
Back when they were together, he had never watched a single one of her performances this intently.
Now, he sat in the audience, but merely as a spectator who had nothing to do with her.
After the show, Olivia and her teammates headed toward the dressing room. Just as they turned down the corridor, she saw Alexander standing at the corner, his gaze locked dead onto her.
Mia recognized him instantly and excitedly leaned in to gossip with Olivia: “Olivia, why is that handsome guy from last time here too? I definitely have to seize the opportunity this time…”
“Mia, I need to step out for a moment.” Olivia cut her off.
Taking a deep breath, she walked toward Alexander and led him to a quiet corner of the stairwell.
