A Toast To A Love That Never Was Chapter 11
“Abroad?” Dustin’s expression darkened. He shot to his feet and glared at Miriam. “What do you mean by that?”
Miriam hadn’t expected Dustin to react so fiercely. Her eyes started to dart around as she said evasively, “What do you mean? You must have misheard me!”
She turned in a hurry, intending to leave. But Dustin was faster, and he blocked her path in the blink of an eye. He stood firmly in front of her, staying silent and refusing to move aside.
Miriam suddenly felt like Dusin might stand there forever if she didn’t explain herself. A wave of irritation washed over her. Was it worth pressing her so much just for Melanie?
She said, “Yes, Melanie went abroad. So what?”
The moment Dustin noticed Miriam’s evasive behavior, he recalled her strange attitude earlier that day. There was no way he wouldn’t understand what had happened.
“Where did you have her sent to?” Dustin’s expression was stormy, and his voice carried a barely suppressed growl.
Miriam’s expression soured at that. She moved to sit leisurely at the dining table and cast him a sideways glance, smiling at the dark look on his face. “Dustin, don’t make it sound so horrible. What do you mean by that? What could I possibly do to her?
“She’s just a poor woman with no background. If it weren’t for our family’s support back then, who knows where she’d be today? Now, she’s not only finished her studies, but has even been given the chance to go abroad.
“She should be grateful for all of that. And luckily, she had some sense and agreed right away…”
Dustin never imagined that the truth would be like that. He had suspected that Miriam had forced Melanie to leave, but he hadn’t thought that Melanie would agree to leave on her own accord.
“That’s impossible!” Dustin’s face went pale, and his voice trembled.
In the end, Dustin was still Miriam’s son. Seeing how devastated he looked, she softened her tone and said gently, “Dustin, if they can leave you so easily, it just proves that you’re not meant to be with them.
“You’re the Hart Group’s sole heir. There are countless women eager to marry you, so why do you keep circling just those two?”
Later, after leaving the Hart residence, Dustin headed straight to Captorn’s largest private club.
Inside a private room, he downed drink after drink. The table was covered with empty bottles, and
he drank so much that his consciousness started to blur.
Harry looked at him with concern. After hesitating for a long time, he finally spoke up. “Dustin, you should slow down. The doctor said you can’t drink like this…”
The others chimed in with warnings, too, but not a single one dared to mention Melanie.
No matter how many times they tried to stop him, Dustin ignored them all. He poured himself glass after glass and shut out every word.
Harry felt helpless as he grabbed his phone and dialed a number.
Jane was surprised when she received the call. After all, she had clearly felt the disapproval from Harry and the others ever since she returned to the country.
Of course, she knew the course of their discontent, but she never cared about that. Who would care about what anyone else thought if Dustin himself didn’t mind?
After a moment’s pause, she finally answered the call when her phone continued to ring persistently. “What is it? Do you need something?”
Harry replied, “Dustin’s drunk. Come talk to him.”
The moment she heard Dustin’s name, she didn’t delay and rushed right over. By the time Jane arrived at the private room, he was already unconscious.
Even Jane was startled by all the empty bottles on the table. She blurted out, “What happened? Why did he drink so much?”
