A Breath Away From Death Chapter 07

A Breath Away From Death Chapter 07

Ethan arrived alone, a solitary figure stepping into the chaos of the Reece family territory.

He clutched a small firearm, its cold metal glinting ominously in the light. No accomplices flanked him, and he bore no intent to harm anyone. Instead, he wreaked havoc, deliberately smashing objects around, creating a cacophony of destruction that echoed through our domain. It was all a calculated move, a bait meant to draw my father’s men out of the shadows and lead them to him, to escort him back to the villa.

His intentions were unmistakable. He was here for me.

My father’s brow furrowed slightly as he turned his gaze toward me, his expression a mix of concern and curiosity.

“Whatever you decide, I’m here to support you,” he said, his voice steady. “You can choose to let him in or send him away.”

“Let him in,” I replied, my voice firm, though my heart raced with uncertainty.

I took a moment to gather my thoughts, summoning the strength I needed. “Take him to the accounts office,” I commanded my men, my tone leaving no room for argument. “Calculate the damage he’s done and ensure he pays tenfold. The Rolling Stones have thrived under my father’s watch, and I expect nothing less than a full accounting.”

The men exchanged surprised glances, taken aback by my assertiveness.

One of them hesitated, his brow creasing in confusion. “Principessa, don’t you want to see him?”

I arched an eyebrow, continuing to fold my clothes with deliberate calmness.

“What purpose would that serve?” I asked, my voice steady. “I’m preparing for my surgery tomorrow. There’s no time to waste. Make sure he pays in cash, every last cent. No exceptions.”

My father and the men shared knowing looks, a hint of admiration flickering in their eyes.

With my decision made, I boarded the plane as scheduled, my mind racing with thoughts of the surgery ahead.

The day of the procedure dawned bright and clear, the sky a brilliant canvas of blue. The sunlight streamed through the windows, bathing everything in a warm glow, as if promising a brighter future lay just beyond the horizon.

As I was wheeled into the operating room, I inhaled deeply, trying to calm the storm of anxiety swirling within me. The anesthesiologist entered, administering the medication that would soon send me into a world of oblivion. He exited the room, leaving me to wait for the surgeon to arrive.

I focused on my breathing, each inhale and exhale a reminder of the life I hoped to reclaim. I closed my eyes and envisioned waking up to a new beginning, free from the burdens that had weighed me down for so long.

But just as I began to drift, a sudden commotion erupted. A nurse burst into the room, her presence jarring and unexpected. She pulled down her mask, revealing a face marred by scars and twisted features. It was Charlotte!

Memories flooded back to me—after I returned to the Reece family villa, I had heard whispers of her downfall. Once a vibrant and charming presence, she had become a pariah after crossing the Reece family. Abandoned by her own kin, she had lost not only her status but also a hand in a brutal act of retribution from those she had wronged.

Her former victims, emboldened by her isolation, had sought vengeance, leaving her to endure relentless abuse. Even Ethan, for reasons unknown to me, had turned his back on her.

Desperate and destitute, Charlotte had become a ghost haunting the red-light district, selling her body merely to survive. I had never imagined our paths would cross again, especially not in this sterile room filled with the promise of healing.

Her face twisted with rage as she stepped closer, her eyes glinting with a malevolent fire.

“Well, well… Look who’s finally within my grasp! All those days sneaking into this hospital have finally paid off,” she sneered, her voice dripping with venom.

Panic surged through me, and I longed to scream, to cry out for help, but the anesthesia held me captive, rendering me powerless.

“This is all your fault! I’ll make you pay for what you did!” she spat, her voice a chilling whisper.

With one hand, she pressed the mask against my face, while with the other, she adjusted the anesthesia, increasing the dosage.

Sleep began to envelop me more swiftly than I anticipated, and tears slipped down my cheeks, a silent plea for salvation.

‘No…’

I refused to accept this as my end.

“Amelia! Hurry! Somebody, please help!”

A cry pierced the air from outside the room, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps.

“Damn it! How are you always this lucky? Go to hell!” Charlotte’s voice trembled with frustration, panic rising within her as the commotion grew louder.

In a moment of desperation, she seized a scalpel, her intentions clear as she aimed it directly at my heart.
