After He Remembered He Lost Me Chapter 12
He forgot his own identity, and also forgot the promise he once made to repay her.
Evelyn felt distressed about the 200 dollars she had advanced for his medical bills and the lost wages from taking time off work, so she simply kept him by her side, letting him work with her to earn money, so he could make good on his promise to repay her.
And so, he stayed for three years.
They depended on each other, keeping each other warm, and in those most difficult years, feelings gradually blossomed between them.
He told her he loved her, and that he wanted to earn a lot of money to marry her.
He even secretly had her name tattooed on his collarbone when she wasn’t paying attention.
When she saw it, the redness around the letters had not yet faded. The moment she touched it, he grimaced in pain, but still forced a silly grin when she looked at him.
That period was the happiest time Evelyn had experienced since her parents passed away one after another.
Evelyn once naively believed that they would be happy like that for a lifetime. But she forgot that Adrian, who loved her deeply, was the Adrian she had brought home, but he was never just the poor Adrian she rescued, just like her.
Later, he regained his memory and took her back to the Wolfe’s mansion, moving into a grand villa. But he was no longer the Adrian who only loved her.
The sudden ringing of her phone pulled her thoughts back from her memories. Evelyn lowered her head to take out her phone, and when she saw the name ‘Winston Higgins’ on the screen, she couldn’t help but quietly breathe a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, those things were already in the past. Fortunately, she already had a brand new life that belonged to her alone.
When the call connected, a clear and gentle voice quickly came from the other end, “Eve, have you arrived?”
Evelyn instinctively nodded, then remembered he couldn’t see her, so she replied, “I’ve arrived safely. What about you?”
“There’s a bit of a problem on my end. I might need a few more days before I can come back,” Winston sighed.
His soft sigh traveled through the phone into her ear, making her chuckle. “Is it serious?”
“It’s nothing major, Eve, don’t worry. At most, I’ll be back in a week. But you’ll have to go to the new company on your own,” he said.
Hearing this, Evelyn finally relaxed, but at his last words, she couldn’t help but blush a little.
“You and your jokes.”
After hanging up, she didn’t linger any longer and dragged her suitcase as she walked out.
The wind as she walked lifted her hair behind her. On the other side, Adrian seemed to sense something, turned his head toward the crowd, and in just one glance, he spotted that familiar figure among the masses.
His pupils trembled violently, and he froze in place, his eyes fixed on that direction, afraid that if he blinked, she would disappear.
The next second, he turned and dashed toward that direction, but just as he did, he collided with Mara, who was chasing after him.
“Ah!”
“Mr. Wolfe!”
Two startled cries rang out at the same time. Adrian staggered from the collision, and when he looked up again, the figure he longed for was nowhere to be seen.
Frustration and hatred instantly flooded his mind. His body moved before his brain could react, and he raised his hand to slap the person in front of him!
“Smack!”
The crisp sound of the slap made the surroundings fall silent for a moment. Countless curious, mocking, or gloating gazes turned toward them, as if sharp blades stabbing into Mara’s spine, making her feel utterly humiliated.
A bright red handprint appeared on her face, as if nailing her to a pillar of shame. With reddened eyes and grievance written all over her face, she cried, “Adrian, how could you hit me? What right do you have to hit me?”
All she did was like him, so what right did he have to treat her like this, to humiliate her just because she liked him?
Her aggrieved and forbearing appearance stirred some sympathy among the onlookers, but Adrian was definitely not one of them.
He continued to look at her coldly for a long time, then let out a mocking laugh.
“You don’t have to follow me.”
With just one sentence, Mara was left speechless, all her complaints stuck in her throat.
Yes, she was the one who insisted on following Adrian. She was the one who kept running into walls and refused to turn back. In the end, all of this was just her own doing.
