15 Days Before I Left Him Chapter 24
The anticipated pain did not appear.Â
Genevieve quickly turned around, only to see Anthony standing behind her, one hand pressed against his abdomen, his face pale and defeated.
Blood continued to gush from the spot he was holding.
Seeing Anthony about to collapse to the ground, Genevieve hurriedly caught him and immediately dialed 911 with her other hand.
Anthony’s consciousness was already somewhat blurred, the intense pain occupying his entire mind. So this was how it felt to be stabbed. Genevieve must have felt this pain back then as well.
Anthony struggled to open his eyes and, seeing the anxious expression on Genevieve’s face, couldn’t help but smile. But the wound in his abdomen sent another wave of excruciating pain.
Genevieve’s mind was now focused solely on stopping the bleeding, and she pressed her hand firmly against the wound. Watching Anthony’s eyelids gradually close, she shouted repeatedly.
“Hold on, Anthony, don’t fall asleep! The doctor is coming soon, you must hang in there!”
Just as Anthony was about to lose consciousness, he heard the sound of the ambulance siren. The medical staff quickly lifted him onto the ambulance and worked to stop the bleeding, while notifying the hospital to prepare for emergency treatment.
Anthony looked one last time at Genevieve, who was anxiously guarding his side, and finally lost consciousness.
After three hours of surgery and emergency treatment, Anthony’s vital signs stabilized. The doctor said the stab had not hit any vital organs, but it was deep enough to cause excessive blood loss.
Genevieve breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed weakly into a chair. Her gaze shifted again to Anthony, who was still unconscious in the hospital bed, her expression extremely complicated. She had not expected Anthony to take the blow for her. Had he been following her all along? But she had made things clear yesterday, so why would he…
Genevieve had so many questions she wanted to ask, but since Anthony had not yet woken up, she could only bury them in her heart for now.
Anthony’s parents, Phillip and Patricia, also rushed to the hospital. Phillip and Patricia looked at their son, who had been fine just moments ago but now lay unconscious in the hospital bed, their eyes reddening. In their hearts, Genevieve’s sudden departure from the wedding two years ago had left Anthony unable to move on even after all this time. Now, after only a few days since her return, Anthony was in the hospital. How could they not resent her?
Patricia broke down and questioned Genevieve. “What exactly do you want?! What does Anton owe you to end up like this? You left on your wedding day two years ago, and now you’ve put him in the hospital. Can’t you just stay away from him!”
Genevieve did not argue back, silently enduring all their anger. There was no need for the elders to know what had happened back then. And today, he had truly saved her.
Patricia was about to rush forward again when a weak voice called out. “Evie.”
Realizing Anthony had woken up, Phillip and Patricia quickly checked on his condition. “Anton, how are you feeling? Does it still hurt?”
Anthony shook his head and looked at Genevieve.
A mother knows her son best, and Patricia could see that Anthony wanted to speak to Genevieve alone. Even though she was unwilling, seeing Anthony so weak, she had no choice but to agree.
After Phillip and Patricia left, only the two of them remained in the hospital room.
Genevieve looked at Anthony, whose face was still pale, with a complicated expression. “Was it worth it?”
