A Lowborn Bitch In His World Chapter 05
Third Person’s POV: Rodney frantically pounded on the master bedroom door.
A long time had passed before Adrian, covered in hickeys, impatiently opened the door.
“What is it? Didn’t I tell you to handle everything?
“Frighten her enough, then send her to the hospital. Don’t let the paparazzi or media catch on.”
Rodney’s lips trembled. It took him a long moment to say, “Something’s happened. They are dead!
“What did you say?! What nonsense are you talking about?!”
Adrian’s face turned angry. He grabbed Rodney by the collar. “Who’s dead? Jaelyn? Or that child?”
Rodney stammered, “They’re both dead…”
“Nonsense!” Furious, Adrian shoved Rodney away and stormed downstairs. He was met with a sight of blood all over the floor and pale–faced men with vacant eyes.
“Whose blood is this? Jaelyn’s?”
His expression was terrible. He stared fixedly at the pool of blood. “Who hurt her? Who did this to her? She is still my wife! Who allowed you to hurt her?
“Where is she? Where’s Jaelyn? Call a doctor!”
Rodney pointed a trembling finger at the blood–stained window frame. “She already fell, and then a car ran over her, and then she was gone…”
“What?!”
Adrian lunged forward. Below the gaping window was a road and a pool of blood on the ground.
“How could this happen so suddenly?
“This isn’t the first time I tortured her. How could she…
“Go find her now! Search the entire city! I want her found, alive or dead! I want to see the body!”
He grabbed Rodney’s collar again. “Didn’t I tell you to watch her and that child? Is this how you watched?!
“What exactly happened? Tell me!”
Rodney hurriedly explained, voice trembling, “After you left, they used the child to force Mrs. Payne to cooperate.
“There were too many people. In the struggle, someone, no one knows who, dropped the child onto the floor. The child went silent immediately.
“Mrs. Payne completely broke down then. She pushed everyone away, grabbed the child, and ran.
“They were afraid she would run out and call the police, so they all went to grab her.
“In the struggle, she got injured. Blood was everywhere.
“Later, someone, again, no one knows who, pushed her. Mrs. Payne, still holding the child, fell from the window.”
Adrian’s hands trembled uncontrollably, his knuckles white, his face growing grim by the second.
A few men standing nearby exchanged glances. Forcing smiles, they approached, trying to ingratiate themselves, saying, “Mr. Payne, you hated her and that child so much anyway; now your biggest problem has been solved. Why not just let it go?
“We’re willing to continue cooperating with the Payne Group, offering an additional five percent discount.”
As soon as the words fell, Adrian’s head snapped up.
The look in his eyes was terrifying. Everyone present fell silent, not even daring to breathe too loudly.
In this suffocating silence, soft footsteps sounded from upstairs.
Hayley walked down, wrapped in a nightgown, her eyes slightly red. She walked to Adrian and reached out and took his arm, her voice soft and low. “Addy, don’t be like this.
“If this matter blows up, it will definitely affect the cooperation between our families.
“We’ve just barely stabilized the situation. We can’t let it be ruined again.”
She looked up at him cautiously. “Why not tell the public that Jaelyn had a mental breakdown and was sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment?
“You can divorce her then. That way, everything will be in control.
“And we can still get married.”
She lowered her head, her voice tinged with shyness. “Our businesses will both rise to new heights.
“And I’m pregnant. It’s yours.”
Adrian looked at her abdomen in surprise, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
Hayley continued, shyly, “If she hadn’t intervened back then, the person standing by your side should have been me all along.
“I’ve truly admired you.”
Adrian looked at her, lost, but his eyes were vacant.
After a moment, he slowly raised his hand and pushed her away.
“I need to be alone to think.”
His voice was low, but brooked no argument. “I’ll have the driver send you back.”
Hayley was taken aback, but eventually nodded and was sent back home.
The remaining people in the hall were quickly silenced one by one and ushered out.
It was late at night.
The huge villa was left with only Adrian inside.
He sat on the sofa for a long, long time..
A vague, suffocating pain suddenly welled up in his chest. He stood up, walked to the fridge, pulled out a bottle of strong liquor, and began pouring glass after glass down his throat.
It made him drunk.
Images began flooding uncontrollably.
He saw Jaelyn at the UCLA gate. She hurriedly got into the car, then fled in a panic.
He saw her blushing smile and falling tears.
He saw the light in her eyes when she accepted his proposal.
The images changed. It was no longer that chaotic, disastrous wedding.
It was a wedding that belonged only to the two of them.
She walked towards him in a pure white wedding dress. He lowered his head to kiss her, his heart filled with an unprecedented sense of fulfillment.
Then, the child was born.
She leaned against the headboard, frowning at him. “Stop drinking on the sofa. Come hold the baby.”
He smiled, his throat hoarse, mumbling, “Jae, get me a glass of water, and I’ll get up.”
Then, the images shattered abruptly.
Adrian’s eyes snapped open.
The drunkenness receded. He felt so lonely and cold.
He wiped his face, remained silent for a long time, and finally seemed to resolve himself.
He had lost Jaylyn already.
He needed to stop thinking about her and focus on the family business.
Adrian picked up his phone and dialed his assistant’s number, his tone regaining its usual coolness. “Suspend the search. Don’t let the news spread.”
There was a moment of hesitation on the other end, the voice clearly flustered. “Mr. Payne, I just saw Madam Payne. She seems…”
What the assistant said next made Adrian’s expression instantly turn grim.
