10 Days To Escape My Marriage Chapter 14
Victoria finally understood what it meant to beg for life and be denied, to beg for death and be refused.
Every incision Isabella had once suffered was carved onto her body, without exception.
The only difference was that Isabella’s ordeal spanned four years, while hers was compressed into three months.
By the time her medical parole ended and she was sent back to prison, she was mentally unhinged,
She screamed at everyone she met, “I am the heiress of The Harrington Group… I am Mrs. Harrington, the mother of the Harrington heir… You all must kneel before me!”
Such outbursts naturally earned her severe beatings from her cellmates.
And she had five more years of days just like this ahead of her.
In America, at The Sullivan family sanatorium, Isabella had been undergoing treatment for six months.
Before meeting William, she had been thin and pale but possessed a strong constitution. Now, under meticulous care and rehabilitation, she quickly regained her vitality.
Her muscles, once atrophied from long–term bed rest, began to rebuild. Her scars were fading and vanishing through cosmetic treatments, and her long, lustrous black hair had long since returned to its former glory.
Samantha prepared an ethereal vintage ball gown and went looking for Isabella.
“We have to get the perfect shot today!
My social media account hasn’t had a viral hit in ages!”
She rubbed her hands together in anticipation but couldn’t find Isabella in her room.
Walking around the grounds, she spotted her from afar in the courtyard, chatting with a young man in a wheelchair.
Samantha gritted her teeth. “Oh, that traitor Anika Sullivan! How dare he hit on my goddess!”
The young man in the wheelchair was her cousin and the most outstanding heir of The Sullivan family’s current generation.
Tragically, he had been in a traffic accident a year ago and could no longer stand.
Doctors had examined him and found no physiological damage, concluding that the paralysis was psychological.
The elders of The Sullivan family doted on him, so they allowed him to set aside all his work and move into the sanatorium.
She just wondered when on earth he had gotten to know Isabella
Samantha sneaked through the small grove, hiding in the shadows to eavesdrop on the conversation.
To her disappointment, she found that dense block of wood, Anika, lecturing Isabella on Murphy’s Law.
“Fundamentally, humans are fragile and unstable creatures. Once there is a possibility for something to go wrong, humanity will inevitably march toward that outcome.”
He spoke indifferently, devoid of emotion, as if delivering a science lecture.
“Therefore, what happened to you, and what happened to me, were both inevitable.”
Isabella was lost in the jargon, yet she understood something from the look in his eyes.
She asked in confusion, “Could it be… you are comforting me?”
Anika didn’t speak, but his cheeks flushed slightly red.
A chiseled, handsome face like a sculpture, combined with a rational and calm tone, yet blushing after just one question…
The contrast was simply too great; Isabella couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Now Anika couldn’t stay put. He turned his wheelchair to leave, and Isabella hurriedly chased after him to apologize.
“I wasn’t laughing at you, I was just surprised… I didn’t expect a genius to know how to comfort people.”
The man before her was famous for his talent, winning many honors at a young age; even the reclusive Isabella knew of him.
His hands pushing the wheelchair slowed down a bit, allowing Isabella to catch up.
But he didn’t turn to look at her, only saying in a low voice, “I don’t know how to comfort people.”
…I only know how to comfort you.
He didn’t say this sentence aloud.
Not because he didn’t dare… but he felt the time wasn’t right yet.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Look at you, Anika. You’ve got game.”
Samantha finally couldn’t stand it anymore and jumped out. “If my aunt finds out you know how to flirt with girls, she’d probably wake up laughing in the middle of the night!”
Facing Samantha, Anika was much more composed.
“With that energy, you’d be better off focusing on your studies. Are you going to graduate with your doctorate this year?”
That was truly a strike right at the vital point!
Samantha wailed, “Professor Philip won’t pass me… I have to defer graduation again!
Boohoo…”
She howled and cried, turning to hug Isabella and act spoiled, while making a face at Anika from an angle Isabella couldn’t see.
Anika didn’t speak, but his eyes were cold and sharp, glaring fiercely at Samantha’s arm.
That arm was currently wrapped around Isabella’s waist; it was truly an eyesore!
Isabella, however, completely failed to notice the tension between the two.
She saw the bag in Samantha’s hand, her eyes lighting up. “Is that… a flowing empire–waist gown?”
Samantha stopped crying. She looked up with a sly smile, “Want to wear it?
I spent a lot of effort booking a photography venue. You coming?”
Isabella picked up the dress, hesitating slightly.
