My Don Betrayed Me With My Best Friend—So I Made One Call Chapter 11
Standing in the empty study, I answered calmly.
“Didn’t you approach him for money and the Moretti family’s power?”
“He died at your husband’s hands.
I will recover your assets one by one.”
Bianca called me insane and hung up.
Not long afterward, one of Luca’s friends called to question me.
“When are you holding his family funeral?”
“Elena, you didn’t deliberately lure Marco there, did you?
Luca may have betrayed you, but he never intended to replace his Donna.”
I opened the desk drawer.
Inside was an agreement Luca had prepared in advance to end our marriage.
It stated that if I chose to leave, every business and share of stock would belong to him.
Outsiders believed Luca alone was responsible for everything the Moretti family had become.
They didn’t know that from the moment Luca took control of the family business, I had planned every legitimate company, port route, and secret fund.
Even the rules still governing Moretti business had been written by me.
Luca never wanted anyone to know, so I remained behind him.
He refused to let me leave, not because he loved me, but because I was obedient, useful, and never fought him for power.
The moment I stopped obeying, he would have left me with nothing.
I said to the man on the phone, “I recorded everything you said that night.
Would you like me to send it to your wives and the Family Commission?”
“Luca only became the man he was because all of you encouraged him.
I owe you no explanation.”
I ended the call and blocked every number.
I sold the riverside estate and moved into a heavily guarded apartment downtown.
Luca had left behind a vast business empire.
Instead of resting, I took control of the group’s legitimate operations.
Six months later, the Family Commission delivered its ruling on Marco.
He had killed a Don and should have been executed immediately.
But I intervened on his behalf as Donna, so the Commission sentenced him to twelve years in the family’s underground prison instead.
Bianca went pale when she heard the decision.
“Twelve years?
He killed a Don.
Why didn’t the Commission execute him?”
“Marco’s mother knelt outside the estate and begged me.
I withdrew my request for his execution.”
“Why would you do that?
He’ll kill me when he gets out!”
I looked at her without answering.
That was exactly what I wanted.
Two people had betrayed their marriages.
There was no reason Luca should be the only one to pay the price.
Bianca couldn’t repay the five million two hundred thousand dollars.
The Commission seized her properties, jewelry, and cash, then blocked every route out through the ports and airports.
No family dared help her escape.
She could only remain in Moretti territory and wait for Marco to come out.
She wrote him many letters, begging for forgiveness.
I sent Marco something only once.
It contained every message Luca and Bianca had exchanged.
After reading them, Marco would never believe her explanations again.
Eight years later, I saw their names again in a confidential family report.
Marco had handled several of the Commission’s most dangerous assignments in exchange for early release.
The first thing he did after leaving the underground prison was find Bianca.
In the end, he spared neither her nor himself.
I paused for only a second before closing the report.
The Moretti Group’s legitimate operations had expanded into Europe, and I now held an official seat on the Family Commission.
They called me Donna Elena.
Not because I was Luca’s widow.
But because I now had the power to speak at the Commission’s long table – and make every person there obey my decisions.
