Later, Bryson insisted it was too dangerous for me to head back alone at night, so he ended up driving me home himself. His thoughtfulness only made my stomach tie into tighter knots.
Trudging into my bedroom, I flopped onto the bed and just let my mind wander. For whatever reason, my thoughts kept drifting back to the past.
Derrick wasn’t wrong. I really was a fan who wanted to date Bryson. But the truth was, I’d been quietly keeping tabs on him way before he ever went pro.
Back in high school, Bryson was easily the most popular, noticeable guy around. He was gorgeous, smart, and had this quiet, aloof vibe that made him seem completely out of everyone’s league. Even back then, everyone knew he was a gaming prodigy.
Between classes, I used to manufacture reasons to walk past the esports club room, sneaking glances through the door just to see if he was playing. How was I even supposed to explain it? He brought so much excitement to my teenage years.
