His Chains My Wings Chapter 18

Claude found himself momentarily speechless, the weight of the moment pressing down on him like a heavy fog. His mind raced, searching for the right words, but they eluded him.

Just then, Alivia stepped forward, her presence a soothing balm in the charged atmosphere. Though her French was still a work in progress, her tone was steady and reassuring, a testament to her growing confidence.

“Mr. Kress,” she began, her voice steady, “my project, ‘Rise From the Ashes,’ transcends mere destruction and rebirth. It’s akin to a watercolor painting, where delicate layers and empty spaces intertwine to reveal a quiet yet profound strength beneath the surface.”

The meeting concluded with an unmistakable bitterness hanging in the air, like the aftermath of a storm.

As if the universe had conspired to throw more obstacles in their path, greater troubles soon followed in rapid succession.

Odin Capital Management, a titan in the business world, had caught wind of the immense commercial potential that ‘Rise From the Ashes’ held. They approached with a tantalizing offer, laden with generous investment terms. However, their conditions were steep: they demanded controlling shares and insisted on being deeply involved in the creative process, a stipulation that sent alarms ringing in Alivia and Sebastian’s minds.

To make matters worse, the individual sent by Odin Capital Management to negotiate for North America was none other than Wesley’s former most trusted assistant.

As he entered the room, he cast a glance at Alivia and Sebastian, a rehearsed smile plastered on his face, yet his eyes betrayed a simmering hatred, cold as ice.

“Ms. Seddon, Mr. Winslow, it’s been quite some time,” Vincent Coleman said, his voice laced with an undercurrent of sarcasm that was hard to miss. “It’s a small world, isn’t it? Mr. Pridmore may have departed, but one lesson he imparted to me is that in the realm of business, allowing emotions to dictate actions is the height of folly.”

The situation escalated when Winston Vance, the head of Odin Capital Management, decided to fly to Paris personally.

However, rather than meeting with Alivia, he extended an invitation solely to Sebastian.

“Mr. Winslow, I must say, I hold you in high regard,” Winston stated, his voice direct and unyielding. “Your discerning eye for antiques and your knack for managing the commercial aspects of this project have left a lasting impression on me. Odin Capital Management is in the process of establishing a global cultural investment division, and I believe you are the ideal candidate to spearhead it.”

With a flourish, he slid a letter of intent across the table, the terms so enticing that they would tempt even the most steadfast of souls.

“But,” he continued, his tone shifting slightly, his fingertip rhythmically tapping the table, “this role demands absolute rationality and an impeccable background. Your association with Ms. Seddon is viewed by the board as a significant liability.”

He leaned in slightly, creating an almost palpable pressure in the air. “Mr. Winslow, will you seize the opportunity to embrace a trillion-dollar empire, or will you continue to stand by that troublesome artist?”

That night, the light in Sebastian’s study burned late into the darkness, illuminating the shadows of doubt that loomed large.

Alivia could feel the oppressive atmosphere enveloping him. He remained tight-lipped, but the brief exchanges he had with his assistant, coupled with the knowledge that Winston had met with him alone, spoke volumes. She sensed that the weight of the world rested heavily on his shoulders.

She chose not to press him for answers. Instead, she prepared a calming tea, the fragrant steam curling through the air, and settled down on the living room sofa, diligently revising the stage design sketches for “Rise From the Ashes.”

Her serene demeanor only served to amplify the turmoil churning within Sebastian’s heart, a storm of conflicting emotions that he struggled to contain.

Three days later, Sebastian found himself seated across from Winston once more.

The warmth that once radiated from his face had vanished, replaced by the cold, sharp demeanor of a businessman prepared for battle.

“Mr. Vance, I appreciate your admiration,” he began, his voice steady, yet firm.

He pushed the unopened letter of intent back across the table, its allure now a distant memory. “But I must decline your offer.”

Winston’s eyebrows arched in surprise, though he quickly masked it with a smirk. “For love? Young man, that’s quite romantic, but also rather foolish.”

“Not entirely,” Sebastian countered, meeting Winston’s gaze with unwavering clarity. “This is about the values I hold dear. Alivia’s ‘Rise From the Ashes’ is not merely an art project; it embodies a cultural dialogue.”

“I can undoubtedly assist Odin Capital Management in generating profits, but I believe that alongside Alivia, we can forge something far more significant than mere wealth—a lasting aesthetic legacy for our time.”

“That,” he declared with conviction, “is where my true ambition lies, and thus, I must respectfully decline.”
